A large bunker-like structure has been built in one corner of Amazon’s huge Jack Ryan Experience offsite for 2018 San Diego Comic-Con.
A week to go and more stuff is showing up outside 2018 San Diego Comic-Con!
I walked around the Gaslamp Quarter and East Village after work and got some photos! Nothing has appeared yet behind the San Diego Convention Center, or outside Petco Park. Once the ESRI conference ends and the Padres finish their home stand, I’ll bet that changes rapidly!

The Jack Ryan Training Field allows fans to immerse themselves in a hyper-reality virtual reality spy experience.The huge bunker-like escape room in one corner of the Jack Ryan Experience has a cool seal. No FXhibition as of yet.I don’t recognize what this wrap promotes–not yet! The motorcycle suggests it might by the new FX series Mayans MC–the spin-off from Sons of Anarchy. I plan to take tons of photos during 2018 Comic-Con!
This morning I observed that DC Comics is beginning to set up an offsite for 2018 San Diego Comic-Con.
A big crane had begun lifting stuff up onto the terrace of the Hilton Gaslamp. Crates on a truck were marked Chaos Room, Swamp Thing and Chief’s Lab.
I was told by one guy working on the project that the offsite would include a Batmobile! Perhaps that explains the heavy duty crane. It appears this DC Universe project is being built by Giant Spoon.
I’ve also included a quick photo of the WB superheroes Rabbitville sculpture which is just inside the lobby of the Hilton Gaslamp.
As I see more, I’ll post updates here!
UPDATE!
Late today–Tuesday–I walked around the DC Comics offsite again. Looking high and low, I didn’t locate the Batmobile, but I did see a big DC Comics building wrap being placed on the exterior of the Hilton Gaslamp. The graphic includes lots of cool comic book covers, featuring a variety of different DC Universe characters!

I saw it early Wednesday morning! The Batmobile has arrived for the DC Universe offsite at the Hilton Gaslamp! It’s the one from Batman Returns!
I’ve also learned Penguin’s big duck vehicle from that same movie will also be present!

According to a sign in a window, the retail space at 635 Fifth Avenue is available as a temporary space for San Diego Comic-Con.
Two weeks to go and counting!
I’ve spotted a few more signs that San Diego Comic-Con is on the way!
I suspect most of the building wraps, banners, and offsite venue construction will begin materializing sometime next week.
I’ll keep watching for new stuff!
Pacific San Diego Magazine’s latest issue has hit the streets. It includes an article about Aquaman appearing at 2018 Comic-ConOmnia nightclub has its lineup ready for Comic-Con weekend.An advertisement for the upcoming movie Skyscraper has been conveniently slapped on a construction site near the center of the Gaslamp Quarter.Chef Santiago of the Donut Bar has his cool Deadpool Ferrari parked on B Street.A couple of posters promoting Castle Rock have appeared in the Gaslamp, including a coveted spot near the Tin Fish.The City of San Diego has placed signage out indicating street closures for a very special event: 2018 Comic-Con!

Cool banners that celebrate Marvel’s Infinity War films and Marvel Studio’s first ten years have been hung in the Gaslamp Quarter for 2018 San Diego Comic-Con! There are several different colorful designs featuring lots of popular characters, including members of the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Check them out!

I found another cool trolley wrap for the upcoming 2018 San Diego Comic-Con! This one promotes The Gifted on FOX with the word PERSIST written above the show’s name. I haven’t been watching The Gifted, so someone might leave a comment with an explanation.
I do know the show is connected to Marvel’s popular X-Men, with young characters who develop mutant powers. They have to survive in a world where mutants are feared and considered dangerous.

I can’t believe how quickly the years pass by. It feels 2017 San Diego Comic-Con happened only yesterday!
Just for fun, I’ve been reviewing my blog posts from last year. It was amazing. So much fantastic stuff going on. Running like a crazy person around downtown taking hundreds of photos almost wore me out, but what an incredible, unforgettable experience!

The first trolley wrap for 2018 San Diego Comic-Con features two Syfy shows–Krypton and HAPPY!
More than a month to go until 2018 San Diego Comic-Con and trolleys are already getting wrapped! A record 40 or more trolley cars will feature Comic-Con graphics this year, according to MTS!
I spotted the very first wrap this morning at the Little Italy station! Here are my quick photos!
It appears Syfy will be returning to San Diego Comic-Con in a big way in 2018. The wrap promotes two of their shows: Krypton and HAPPY! Both series have been renewed for a second season.
I noticed that Syfy’s slogan from last year–It’s a Fan Thing–is being referenced once again. On this trolley the words read: It’s a Fan Made Thing.
The Krypton art was created by Moritat, a comic book creator who has done some work for DC.
The HAPPY! trolley art was created by a fan named Alyssa Veysey. You can see her personal DeviantArt page, including the HAPPY! trolley artwork, here.
Because I live in downtown San Diego, I plan to take hundreds of photos during Comic-Con, as I’ve done the past few years!

A cool mural on the Supercuts building in North Park depicts sexy lady space warriors and wacky, menacing aliens!
There’s a relatively new mural in North Park that replaces a cosmic mural that I blogged about here. This cool spray paint street art features two sexy space warriors and several wacky aliens! You can find it near the corner of El Cajon Boulevard and 30th Street.
It appears to me that certain elements of the old mural have been preserved. Have you “eyed” it?
I recently learned that a special utility box painting event will be taking place in North Park all along University Avenue and 30th Street tomorrow, and I hope to be there for the creativity, live music and fun! But right now I seem to be coming down with a cold, plus rain is predicted–so we’ll see. If I go I’ll take photos!

I’ve never seen San Diego Comic-Con so crowded. Saturday is usually the busiest day of Comic-Con, but this year it was plain crazy. So crowded in places you almost couldn’t move!
I somehow managed to walk all over the place. Too much fun!
I started off my walk by getting a free Nickelodeon ice cream sandwich at Horton Plaza Park!It seems the Borg and the Federation have joined forces.That crazy, super energetic Syfy drum line is in the Gaslamp again!Must get the hair just right before taking a nice picture with a shark.It’s Jason! Run!Very cool.The latest Mummy is getting all wrapped up at Comic-Con.So much humanity, one can barely move.Profile of a Ferengi.Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman has a buddy.Lego Ninjago characters welcome a Comic-Con fan!People everywhere.Cosplay in the Petco Interactive Zone.Some laser tag action.A party inside the Hey Arnold! They now have a monitor instead of a head.Cleaning up means finding cool swag!Batman’s Rogue Gallery has the Caped Crusader and Robin surrounded.The DC superheroes and supervillains seem to be getting along better than usual.An awesome Transformer stands high above the Comic-Con crowd in the Gaslamp.I don’t know this cosplay. Pretty cool, though. UPDATE! Sam commented that this is likely Azrael Batman.I’m pretty sure that’s Cable of the X-Men.Yes. It must be another San Diego Comic-Con!
