The Fangaea concept started in late 2016 as just an idea between a few friends who are big fans of subcultures… the idea began to turn into reality when more friends got interested in being a part of making something great and fun for fans of all different worlds… nerds, geeks, gamers, cosplayers, movie lovers, and more… who love immersing ourselves into experiences… in a funtastic, all-inclusive event.
Artists! Cosplay! Panels! Video and board games! An escape room! Giveaways! I’m sure it’s going to be awesome!

As usual, there’s a whole lot of cosplay to enjoy during Comic-Con this year!
Every imaginable character from popular entertainment (movies, television, comic books, video games…) can be seen roaming the streets and sidewalks in downtown San Diego. Most of the outdoor cosplay is found in the Gaslamp or around the convention center.
I passed hundreds of awesome costumes yesterday and this morning. Every so often poses were struck and my camera shutter clicked!

Some very cool people are helping military veterans by bringing them the joys of geek culture and video gaming.
Stack Up is the name of the organization. They have a table outside Comic-Con, near the “pirate ship” behind the San Diego Convention Center.
Serving far from home or coming back into civilian life can be difficult for veterans. I’m sure you’ve heard the stories in the news. Or you have friends or family with experience. Feelings of isolation. Anxiety. Depression. Or worse.
Stack Up provides these veterans with community and fun!
They send video games to deployed troops; they offer veterans trips to cool geek culture events; they engage in community outreach; and they provide mental health support through online community.
It’s a uniquely awesome way to help those who’ve sacrificed.

If you’re into Dragon Ball, but not in San Diego, you’ll probably like these photos. I took them today at the Bandai Namco activation that is outside at Comic-Con 2022.
If you are in San Diego, head behind the Marriott Marquis hotel to the large outdoor plaza near the Marina Office (the Marriott Hotel Marina Terrace). Once you see the big statues and flashy photo op panels, you’ll know you’ve arrived.
The public is welcome, I found no lines, and no Comic-Con badge is required! There are card and video games to play, lots of figurines to check out, and more. If you get there early in the day–they open at 10 am–swag is handed out!
As promised, here are my photos. The experience is as fun as it looks!

Check out what I discovered today while wandering inside UC San Diego’s Geisel Library!
The very cool Chameleon Jump Suit!
The life-size figure in scaly green body armor was modeled after the time-traveling character in a popular 1998 computer game. “The Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time” was entertaining software created by Presto Studios, a company founded by UCSD alumni. You can read more about it here!
Even though I never played that particular computer game, I know a number of my readers love Comic-Con and popular culture, so I thought I’d share these photographs for everyone’s enjoyment!
I’m taking Comic-Con week off from work again this year, so stay tuned for lots of cool photos during 2022 San Diego Comic-Con coming up in July!

A building wrap on the Marriott Marquis’ meeting space windows promotes Gundam 40th “Beyond” for 2019 San Diego Comic-Con.
Late this morning I took photos all around the Gaslamp Quarter and San Diego Convention Center of cool stuff being readied for 2019 Comic-Con!
A bunch of Comic-Con offsites and building wraps are now appearing!
The big international pop culture event gets started in just four days!
The right part of the cool Gundam wrap is being applied four days before Comic-Con.
Another building wrap is just starting to appear. This one is on the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. I guess that, like in past years, it will promote a show on FX.
The grassy area behind the San Diego Convention Center is now buzzing with Comic-Con offsite construction.
Adult Swim on the Green will return in 2019 for Comic-Con.
The FX Fearless Forum appears quite a bit different from their offsite here last year.
Workers start to set up the FX Fearless Forum in front of the Hilton.
Looking across Harbor Drive, one can see the Animation Domination wrap, which is being applied on the Omni.
As I walked past the Hilton parking structure, I aimed my camera up at one of the big Marvel’s Avengers video game banners.
Harbor Drive and the convention center viewed from the pedestrian bridge, with four day to go until 2019 Comic-Con! Looks pretty quiet right now.
This offsite will feature two recent movies from Warner Bros. Pictures. People will walk through a large tent and see cool stuff concerning Detective Pikachu and Shazam!
The Brooklyn Nine-Nine offsite is also under construction in Gaslamp Square. NBC has their offsite in this prime location every year, it seems.
Part of the Brooklyn Nine-Nine activation for 2019 Comic-Con.
A cool Statue of Liberty will appear about here!
I turned my camera in time to get a photo of a FOX Animation Domination trolley wrap at the Gaslamp station.
A mysterious wrap was going up around noontime near the Gaslamp Quarter landmark sign.
I spotted a free ride FRED electric vehicle promoting WEBTOON.
No parking signs are up in areas of the Gaslamp for Comic-Con week.
This wrap on the Hilton Gaslamp is indeed for Star Trek: Picard, as I surmised in a past blog post. It features Patrick Stewart.
AMC’s popular DeadQuarters fan zone is returning for 2019 Comic-Con, and they just started building their offsite this morning.
Preparing for an invasion of zombies.
Another part of DeadQuarters.
Videoboards have been installed high above Amazon’s big, colorful offsite. Explore the shows…
Carnival Row.
The Boys.
The Expanse.
The Ferris wheel appears ready to go at the FOX Fan Fair. A ride on this should provide a good view of Comic-Con action along MLK Promenade!
A shot of FOX Fan Fair preparations in Childrens Park.
The familiar old Welcome to Comic-Con International banner is now on the San Diego Convention Center.
The big TBS Snowpiercer building wrap on the Marriott Marquis should soon be completed.

Three huge banners promoting the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers video game were hung today on the Hilton San Diego Bayfront’s parking structure for 2019 Comic-Con!

During my walks around San Diego over the years, I’ve photographed all sorts of pop culture characters depicted in street art. The cool artwork has appeared on walls as murals and on sidewalk electrical boxes.
I’ve stumbled upon characters from comic books, manga, movies, television shows and even video games. Can you name all of them?
With Comic-Con now just ten days away, I thought I’d have fun and post some of these old photographs again!
If you want to see a lot more of this street art, and read additional information about the above photos, here are the related blog posts to check out…
