Bay to Park Paseo arriving in San Diego!

An epic art project along Park Boulevard has begun to take form in downtown San Diego!

The Bay to Park Paseo is a planned 1.7 mile walking experience that will connect San Diego Bay to Balboa Park. The massive, temporary art installation is being created by local artists and designers, to celebrate the selection of San Diego/Tijuana as World Design Capital 2024!

Today I noticed one section of the Bay to Park Paseo being installed just south of the City College trolley station. Local artist Armando De La Torre (@guavasufi) was putting up images on a construction fence on the east side of Park Boulevard.

You can see how the entire Bay to Park Paseo will appear here.

That big old trolley and other images I discovered are part of the Zone 8 artwork, which will express the block’s mobility and walkability throughout time… Four 20 feet wide panels will include a mixture of photos, drawings and text in a 3D shadowbox format. They will depict the evolution of San Diego, from small settlement to metropolis.

The artist Armando De La Torre was born in Tijuana, Mexico and lives in Chula Vista. Among his other accomplishments, he teaches homeless kids art at Father Joe’s Villages!

The urban designer for this particular section of the Bay to Park Paseo is native San Diegan Howard Blackson.

The property behind the fence, owned by Kilroy Realty, is the site of a future tech hub.

Stay tuned as I follow this exciting project!

Cool new faces appear before Comic-Con!

Several cool new faces have appeared outside Comic-Con 2023 since my walk around downtown San Diego yesterday!

I caught these faces with my camera this afternoon for all to enjoy.

Those two faces above–‘TIL ALL ARE ONE–are part of very cool artwork leaning up against Paramount’s coming offsite activation in the Gaslamp. The Lodge will be located inside Happy Does.

The big Star Trek wrap on the Marriott Marquis has added the face of Picard…

The Sand Land world premiere screening wrap on the Marriott now features the face of character Beelzebub…

Piccolo is pictured on a crate waiting to be unloaded in the Marriot Marina Terrace, where the Dragon Ball outdoor activation will open to the public during Comic-Con…

A deflated face up in the air above the future Adult Swim on the Green offsite activation…

Jack in the Box has a trolley wrap featuring Jack fan art, it appears! I spotted these faces in the trolley yard from the Harbor Drive pedestrian bridge…

Finally, check out this cool graphic on one of the Amazon Prime Video wraps near the Gaslamp Quarter Archway. I’m afraid I don’t know the character. Leave a comment if you do!

Spider-Man clings to a San Diego trolley!

Spider-Man was observed in San Diego today clinging to the side of a moving trolley! Well, two Spider-Men to be exact. Peter Parker and Miles Morales!

A very cool new trolley wrap that will run during Comic-Con 2023 promotes the upcoming Spider-Man 2 action-adventure video game, which will be available on PlayStation 5.

On Thursday, July 20, at Comic-Con, “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” will have its own Hall H panel hosted by Insomniac Games called Symbiotic Relationships. It seems the symbiote will play an important role in the game!

According to the Insomniac Games website, Spider-Man 2 will include Venom, the ruthless Kraven the Hunter, the volatile Lizard and many more.

Hear Your Heart Stop on a Comic-Con trolley!

Hear your heart stop? It might happen when you listen to Impact Winter on Audible, or if terror grips you as you step onto this spooky Comic-Con 2023 trolley!

I caught this trolley wrap today at the Linda Vista Station.

You might recall Audible had those three awesome sand sculptures along MLK Promenade outside Comic-Con last year. One sculpture promoted this same Impact Winter audio series: it’s a world-gone-dark post-comet-impact vampire apocalypse!

I posted photographs of those great Audible sand sculptures here!

Subway stops at San Diego Museum of Art!

The subway has a new stop at the San Diego Museum of Art!

Until December 3, 2023, visitors walking through two San Diego Museum of Art galleries will experience the inside of a gritty subway. The New York subway in 1980, that is. Diverse passengers in close contact pass through dimly lit tunnels together in a photographic exhibition that can be interpreted as a metaphor for our life in this world.

The exhibition is titled Bruce Davidson: Subway. The artist, Bruce, spent a full year photographing people on the New York subway. He noted that close contact between strangers could result in surprisingly beautiful moments. Strangers find that they are alike in many ways, sympathize, laugh, learn about each other. Of course, these moments rely on strangers actually talking to one another.

Today, passengers staring at phones safely avoid eye contact on public transit. You can observe this on the San Diego Trolley. By tilting heads downward, passengers easily escape real world uncertainties and personal vulnerability. Does living inside a little screen make people more or less human?

Make Galleries 14/15 your destination at the San Diego Museum of Art. Enter these two free galleries from Panama 66 in the sculpture court. Look for the Subway sign!

Five years ago I wrote a short story titled One Thousand Likes. It’s about phone addiction and social isolation on a crowded light rail train. Unfortunately, the story resonates more than ever. You can read it and other thought-provoking stories by clicking here.

A second Paramount trolley for Comic-Con!

A second San Diego Trolley wrap that promotes entertainment available on Paramount+ has appeared for Comic-Con 2023!

I photographed one side of a trolley car with the first Paramount design yesterday. You can see those photos here.

The new trolley wrap that I discovered today features many more shows available on Paramount+. Graphics on one side promote iCarly, Yellowjackets, School Spirits, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, and 1923. The other side includes Star Trek: Lower Decks, Bumblebee, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Evil, and Tulsa King.

I added a little contrast to some of these photos.
