It’s now Tuesday evening. I walked around taking more photos today of preparations underway for 2017 San Diego Comic-Con! Lots of new stuff has popped up since I blogged a bunch of photos yesterday.

A corner of San Diego is being taken over by The Tick. The Amazon original series streams on Prime starting August 25.
Here are some photos of The Tick Takeover being built today for 2017 San Diego Comic-Con. I realize it might be difficult for a good-natured but rather dimwitted superhero to take over an entire city, but it seems The Tick will at least watch over a stretch of Martin Luther King Jr. Promenade, near the corner of Harbor Drive and First Avenue!
Graphic on rear of The Tick Takeover building shows Arthur Everest and The Tick.Superian says: Not everything that glows gives you superpowers! The Tick Takeover is under construction at the corner of First Avenue and Harbor Drive. This is the first of three sections. No graffiti, but lots of plastered advertisements. The inside of the building appears to be a small store. An upside down car and some rubble beside the building.Another look. The second section, I learned, is where the 20 foot animatronic Tick will be located. That blue thing is part of his huge (empty) head.Workers are getting The Tick Takeover ready for 2017 San Diego Comic-Con.Two halves of The Tick’s animatronic head lie on the ground. Some of The Tick’s characters depicted on one wall include Ramses IV, Superian and Overkill.

Three canine celebrities get their photo taken during PAWmicon. Cosplay goes to the dogs.
The humans can’t have all the fun during Comic-Con!
Check out some photos of dog cosplay at today’s PAWmicon event, which took place at Hazard Center. Helen Woodward Animal Center had adoptable dogs dressed up as superheroes, and friendly pups proceeded to save smiling humans! As the bumper sticker says: Who rescued who?
Dogs brought by those attending the event were also dressed up for a costume contest. I know–a bit silly–but every two-legged and four-legged critter at PAWmicon seemed quite happy!
Helen Woodward Animal Center created PAWmicon to help adoptable dogs find loving homes. Cosplay for a cause.I spotted Hairy Pawter in the Dogwarts Express.Bat-dog was keeping an eye on the mayhem.I see Harley-canine and Super-growl.Bat-dog returned to the relative safety of Gotham. San Diego is just too crazy.A cosplay dog is a star of the show. The furriest critter around wasn’t a pooch–it was Chewbacca! Not sure what superhero this dog is dressed up to be. Perhaps some sort of Captain Paw-merica.Here comes Scooby Doo. He ate so many Scooby snacks, he outgrew the Mystery Machine!

Another cool discovery! A few banners for 2017 San Diego Comic-Con have already been hung along Harbor Drive near the convention center. For 2017, the promotional banners depict Thor and Black Panther, Marvel superheroes who have highly-anticipated movies coming up!
Thor, one of Marvel Comics’ Mighty Avengers, appears on a banner for 2017 San Diego Comic-Con. It depicts a scene from the upcoming movie Thor: Ragnarok.

New trolley wrap for 2017 San Diego Comic-Con promotes The Gifted, an upcoming Marvel series on FOX.
I spotted a third new trolley wrap for 2017 San Diego Comic-Con! This cool wrap promotes the upcoming FOX series The Gifted, which will concern Marvel’s universe of mutant X-Men. Looks like the Sentinel Services mutant transport will be filled with gifted Comic-Con attendees this year! Hopefully it transports them to the convention center, and not somewhere less pleasant!
I spoke to an MTS supervisor at America Plaza and he believes there will be one more wrap this year!
The Gifted will be based on Marvel’s popular X-Men characters.During San Diego Comic-Con, lots of mutants will be transported on this Sentinel Services vehicle. I wonder if it’s made of plastic. Magneto might make an appearance!
Here’s another photo I captured the following day!
That looks like some sort of prisoner transport. Wait! Don’t go in!
And yet another photo! There now seems to be a different variation of this wrap for the older style trolleys. It comes with a warning!
Mutants Aboard. For your safety please keep your distance.

Conan O’Brien is returning to San Diego Comic-Con in 2017. Some trolleys are wrapped with images of Conan as four different Funko Pop! toys.
Here are some photos of the new Conan O’Brien trolley wrap for 2017 San Diego Comic-Con! I spied two trolley cars with this wrap on my way home from work aboard the Green Line.
This is the third year in a row Conan will be hosting his funny TBS talk show at the Spreckels Theatre during Comic-Con. And, as before, the trolley wraps feature him transformed into four different Funko Pop! characters.
This year Conan appears as Justice League member the Flash, as a Game of Thrones White Walker, as Marvel’s ever-popular superhero Spiderman, and finally as a Star Wars Jedi holding a lightsaber.
Enjoy these photos! I’ll keep watching for new SDCC trolley wraps in the days ahead!
For the third year in a row, TBS television talk show host Conan O’Brien has been transformed by Funko into four famous pop culture characters.Conan O’Brien has become the fastest man alive–The Flash! This trolley wrap image has Conan turned into a White Walker from Game of Thrones.Conan is hanging upside down from the roof of the trolley. Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) art rendition of Justice League heroes, including Superman and Batman.
A good number of pop culture fans follow Cool San Diego Sights, because every year I cover San Diego Comic-Con and post tons of cosplay photos. So here’s something I saw today during my walk through Old Town that DC Comics readers might really enjoy!
In the window of a shop called Cielito Lindo were all sorts of Day of the Dead ornaments and gifts. And among all the colorful artwork were Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, and his super-dog Krypto!
Day of the Dead is a beloved Mexican holiday that is very popular here in San Diego. In Spanish it’s called Día de los Muertos. Skulls and skeletons, which abound during the Day of the Dead, traditionally represent deceased loved ones.
As you can see, Day of the Dead inspires all sort of creative, unexpected art! No subject matter escapes its decorative influence! Even the mighty Justice League!
Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) art depicts popular DC Comics super-heroine Wonder Woman.A skeletal Superman flying through skulls.Fun skeleton artwork celebrating Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos). The figures are Superman, his dog Krypto, and Batman!

An amazing Wonder Woman mural is being painted for 2016 San Diego Comic-Con, at (Paradise) Island Avenue and Sixth Avenue
An awesome, multi-paneled outdoor mural depicting Wonder Woman is being painted during 2016 San Diego Comic-Con. Should you head a few blocks north of the convention center and find the intersection of Island and Sixth Avenue, your eyes will be astonished at what they discover!
Three Southern California artists are painting larger-than-life interpretations of Wonder Woman, DC Comic’s legendary super-heroine. The three colorful panels together compose a large bold mural, and Comic-Con fans can line up to have their picture taken with the artwork as a backdrop. The reason? It’s Wonder Woman’s 75th Anniversary!
How cool is this?
A small lot in downtown San Diego, several blocks from the convention center, has been converted into a celebration of DC Comic’s legendary character Wonder Woman and her 75th Anniversary! The left panel, depicting an abstract face of Wonder Woman, was painted by San Diego artist Katherine Brannock.2016 San Diego Comic-Con fans can have their photo taken with this very cool Wonder Woman mural as a backdrop. The center panel honoring Wonder Woman is being painted by another talented San Diego artist, Celeste Byers. And the right panel, the strong face of comic book heroine Wonder Woman, is being painted by Los Angeles artist Christina Angelina.

The tradition of cosplay–costume play– during San Diego Comic-Con is alive and well! As proof, I offer these cool photos that I took today!

This insanely popular, internationally famous event is quite a spectacle!Cool cosplay of Kenan Kong, the new Chinese Superman! These tough-looking pirates are promoting Sea of Thieves, an upcoming video game for the Xbox.I spotted Flash and Supergirl ambling slowly along during San Diego Comic-Con. It appears Supergirl is getting an urgent communication from the Justice League Watchtower. And here I see Captain America is receiving an urgent summons from Avengers Mansion. Hopefully there are enough superheroes assembled in San Diego to save the cosmos. Some futuristic cosmetics were being tested by stylish Comic-Con fans at this Star Trek venue at Children’s Park.Unfortunately, the transporter seemed to be out of order. I feel safer already.Lots of people were being videoed while playing Pie Face, which is a Hasbro game. Most every face ended up with whipped cream.Ever wonder where Jack in the Box tacos come from? This might be the explanation. That undead employee at the drive-through window proved hard to kill. (Okay, Jack–just kidding. I guess they walked aboard the Abigail when no one was looking.Hopefully zombies can’t swim. Because I know numerous Batmans are nearby.Doc Brown of Back to the Future is looking for Marty. He’s either lost in the crowd or somewhere in time.Another KFC hotspot.
