Predator: Badlands banners appear for Comic-Con!

Street lamp banners that promote Predator: Badlands are beginning to appear in San Diego for upcoming Comic-Con 2025!

Predator: Badlands will be released later this year, and will be the–can you believe it–ninth movie in the Predator franchise. Obviously, the film will be heavily hyped during Comic-Con.

A young android will be paired with a young alien Predator in the new science fiction action adventure. Interesting combination. The two characters appear in the Comic-Con banners now going up along sidewalks in downtown San Diego!

Author promotes books with sandwich board!

When you self-publish, it can be difficult selling your book. Friends, coworkers and relatives are potential buyers, but reaching new customers in this great big world can be daunting. Author websites are numerous and precious few rise to the top of general search engine results. Most people scrolling through social media have short attention spans, and few are interested in purchasing a book. Conventional marketing requires money, and the result might be less than satisfying. So what is one to do?

Well, I met indie author Daniel X Ostenso (D X O) this weekend while exploring Balboa Park. He was strolling through the crowd wearing an advertising sandwich board!

What a great (albeit unusual) idea! Signed books for sale, a special offer, an outgoing personality, and the sheer novelty of his sandwich board immediately caught my attention.

His gumption in getting out there while appearing a bit strange is commendable. And you never know how gumption might be unexpectedly rewarded.

Check out the science fiction novels and other works authored by Daniel X Ostenso by clicking here.

He has traveled extensively with a beloved dog. Check out his YouTube video Kaylee’s Life in Five Minutes by clicking here.

Daniel donates money to animal shelters with every sale.

The Wild Robot cast appears at Comic-Con!

Lupita Nyong’o and Kit Connor surprised an outdoor crowd today at Comic-Con 2024 when they appeared in public to promote their upcoming animated film The Wild Robot!

Late Saturday morning, a remote controlled robot version of Roz (the movie’s protagonist), created and operated by Catalyst Engineers, was standing near the entrance to the Omni San Diego Hotel, moving its head and body and talking to random fans who’d gathered nearby. Little did anyone know that voice actress Lupita Nyong’o was actually hidden from sight and speaking through the robot.

When the cast members suddenly appeared from around a corner, the crowd went crazy!

The Wild Robot is an upcoming American animated science fiction film that will hit movie theaters on September 27, 2024.

I arrived early and waited for several minutes, having an inkling of what might transpire, and managed somehow to get some fun celebrity photographs!

Oh–that bird on Roz’s shoulder is an orphaned gosling with whom the robot develops a relationship while shipwrecked on an uninhabited island.

All sorts of fun photos from a Comic-Con walk!

I took jillions of photographs today while walking near the San Diego Convention Center and Gaslamp Quarter. It’s the first day of Comic-Con 2023!

I’ve already posted blogs about two different Comic-Con offsite activations. More of that is coming. However, my little camera captured so many miscellaneous images today I thought I’d present some of them now. Most of these were taken while walking along Harbor Drive. I started near the Interactive Zone at Petco Park.

There are smiles, creativity, cosplay, and plenty of people seeking attention. Comic-Con is not only a fun pop culture convention, but it’s a humongous marketing opportunity for those who are shrewd. (Feel free to follow my blog. Wink-wink. Oh wait, I gain nothing but an inflated ego!)

Ready? Here we go. No captions. Just absorb all the wonderful craziness!

Incidentally, this morning I also enjoyed a very special two-hour tour at the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park. Busy day!

I’ll blog about some truly famous and amazing art at the museum right after Comic-Con concludes.

Photos outside Comic-Con with 3 days to go!

Enjoy lots of photographs taken today around the San Diego Convention Center and Gaslamp Quarter. It’s Monday, three days before the official start of Comic-Con 2023!

Offsite activations are rising all over the place, new building wraps continue to appear, and there’s a definite sense of excitement and anticipation in the air!

Read the photo captions!

The Jurassic Park offsite is now setting up in East Village. I wasn’t allowed to take a photo through the front door, but it looks like this might be epic!

Abbott Elementary wraps are going up on the exterior of Petco Park.

Some shade is ready for fans waiting in line outside the San Diego Convention Center. It should be quite warm this week!

The FX offsite is now fenced with graphics promoting many shows.

Is this guy screaming in anticipation of huge crowds?

The huge building wrap on the Hilton San Diego Bayfront promotes FX mini-series Shōgun.

Now walking down the bayside boardwalk toward Adult Swim on the Green.

Another Comic-Con, another ride on the Adult Swim hotdog!

The way I felt after a vigorous summer walk in the San Diego sunshine.

Now I’ve reached the Hulu Animayhem offsite. Looks like a lot of hot air.

Who are all these people just standing around?

You can get your selfie with a favorite character.

Workers are setting up the Dragon Ball offsite behind the Marriott. Looks like the layout is much like last year.

They’ve got a couple days to get ready!

The Wheel of Time building wrap on a Marriott Marquis tower looks pretty cool!

I believe Hero House will sell pop culture collectibles and cool stuff. They were setting up beside Martin Luther King Jr. Promenade.

Walking along MLK Promenade.

Looks like Camp Snoopy is getting ready! The Peanuts offsites are always fun.

Spooky black waiting area for the recently announced Interview With the Vampire activation at the Hilton Gaslamp.

A recreation of a New Orleans street will await fans of Interview With the Vampire.

Check this out! It’s the Quantum Leap activation under construction. I’ll bet fans walk in through that circular entrance…

When visitors walk through here, will they travel through spacetime?

Watch out! Here’s Chucky!

The huge Yellowjackets wraps on the Hard Rock Hotel are finished.

Vampire theatre and early Comic-Con omens!

Will Comic-Con 2023 goers be able to enjoy the entertainment provided by Vampire Theatre? If the early appearance of graphics applied to the Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter hotel are any indication, perhaps!

I walked around this evening and captured more photographs of pre-Comic-Con activity. Perhaps you saw my previous blog post where I shared photos of building wraps that are materializing all over!

Here come a few more photos from my latest walk.

Interview With The Vampire is being applied to one window of the Hilton Gaslamp.

That Amazon Prime Video building wrap at Fifth Avenue and K Street has expanded during the afternoon. Friendly workers putting up the graphics told me the entire Hilton Gaslamp and this building adjoining it on Fifth Avenue will be completely wrapped on every side.

That wrap above when competed will advertise Good Omens 2. I got the following picture of a sample showing how it will appear. You can see where building windows will be in relation to the graphics…

And on the San Diego Convention Center side of the Hard Rock Hotel, a wrap is going up that promotes Yellowjackets on Paramount+ . . .

New Blood runs through San Diego for Comic-Con!

Check out this new San Diego trolley wrap for Comic-Con 2023! I got these photos today. The graphics promote products created by video game publisher New Blood Interactive!

Images afire with fantasy and horror relate to the games Amid Evil, Gloomwood and Dusk.

One Piece and The Creator banners appear for Comic-Con!

Promotional banners are popping up near the San Diego Convention Center as Comic-Con 2023 rapidly approaches!

I spotted a huge ONE PIECE banner attached to the Hilton San Diego Bayfront parking garage. ONE PIECE is an American-Japanese streaming television series developed by Matt Owens and Steven Maeda for Netflix. It’s scheduled to premiere on August 31, 2023.

I also spotted many street lamp banners that have been hung across Harbor Drive from the convention center. They include the Comic-Con logo and promote The Creator, an upcoming 2023 science fiction action movie about humankind’s fight against artificial intelligence. Sounds a bit like the Terminator films. The Director, Gareth Edwards, is known for directing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The Creator is scheduled to be released in the United States on September 29, 2023.

UPDATE!

Dozens of new The Creator banners were seen along Fifth Avenue in the Gaslamp Quarter during a Fourth of July walk!

UPDATE!

Here’s a pic of the ONE PIECE banner more brightly illuminated…

A second Paramount trolley for Comic-Con!

A second San Diego Trolley wrap that promotes entertainment available on Paramount+ has appeared for Comic-Con 2023!

I photographed one side of a trolley car with the first Paramount design yesterday. You can see those photos here.

The new trolley wrap that I discovered today features many more shows available on Paramount+. Graphics on one side promote iCarly, Yellowjackets, School Spirits, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, and 1923. The other side includes Star Trek: Lower Decks, Bumblebee, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Evil, and Tulsa King.

I added a little contrast to some of these photos.

Krapopolis fills the Omni for Comic-Con!

Walk into the lobby of the Omni San Diego Hotel during 2022 Comic-Con and you might, for a moment, think you’ve been transported to ancient Greece. Then, looking around more closely, you’ll see you’ve been transported into the future–of FOX television!

Krapopolis, a new animated series that is coming up, has an unusual cast of characters, from the look of it. I think I see Medusa and the Kraken, too!

The graphics are on columns in the lobby and at the elevators–inside the elevators, too!

You won’t mistake the place for the Parthenon on the Acropolis. Because it’s Krapopolis!
