During my Saturday walk through Imperial Beach I discovered these funny murals!
Not only does Mason’s Auto Clinic have a cool mural painted near the sidewalk showing off-road desert racers, but there are three images decorating the bay doors that made me laugh!
It seems the intrepid mechanics at this car repair shop deal not only with broken alternators and blown gaskets, but with Darth Vader, gremlins and gigantic apes!

Star Wars cosplay and a sign welcomes visitors to a special Comic-Con Museum event!
Around noon today I headed to the Federal Building in Balboa Park for a bite to eat. And what did I see? A special event was being held inside the future home of the Comic-Con Museum!
I walked about and watched people playing Star Wars: Armada and other tabletop games published by Fantasy Flight Games.
Very cool!

Players try out Star Wars: Destiny, a dueling dice and card game.
Guys play Star Wars: Armada inside the Federal Building, future home of the Comic-Con Museum in Balboa Park.
There seem to be a lot of Imperial Star Destroyers in this region of space!
Perhaps players with a high midi-chlorian count can use the Force to their advantage when throwing these dice.
Cards are used to keep track of Rebel and Imperial fleet ship status during play.
A cool game mat depicts the Star Wars ice planet Hoth.
I see LEGO Star Wars figurines of Fleet Admiral Gial Ackbar and Darth Vader.
Star Wars: Legion miniatures game set depicts the planet Tatooine. I see a menacing Darth Vader following those stormtroopers!

Scary cosplay outside in the Gaslamp promoting the TV series Medinah. It’s late Wednesday afternoon. It’s 2017 San Diego Comic-Con Preview Night!
I couldn’t go into the San Diego Convention Center for Preview Night this year. (I was fortunate to do so a couple times in the past.) So instead I walked around outside and took photos of the late afternoon fun.
Not much cosplay, but I did spot a couple instances of it. Mostly it was just people wandering about looking at the many pop culture attractions that are open free to the public. That’s one very cool aspect of San Diego Comic-Con!
I spotted Iron Man outside Atomic in the Gaslamp. He told me they have a cool Comic-Con exhibit upstairs.
This cool Darth Vader with hookah was outside the Myst Lounge.
A nice lady representing the Gaslamp Quarter told me their Rabbitville exhibit will be open tomorrow.
Lego superheroes in the windows of My Yogurt.
Outside of the Snoopy & Belle pop-up shop in the Gaslamp.
People peer into AMC’s Deadquarters. It opens tomorrow.
This guy is secretly peering through the fence, perhaps hoping to see zombies.
An amazing feat of super strength at Kong: Skull Island!
You can have your photo taken while posing between gigantic teeth!
A Syfy bus wrap proclaims–Attention Time Travelers: No Spoilers.
Here comes Zatanna walking behind the convention center!
The big Turner yacht is all dressed up and ready to go when Comic-Con opens tomorrow.
It looks like they were testing the Viking longship out on San Diego Bay. It will be used for the Viking funeral Friday evening!
Television reporter Ashlie Rodriguez of KUSI gets ready to interview the person who is first in line for Hall H.
Workers are still unloading stuff behind the convention center.
I wonder if the Knights Templar had power tools?
I wonder how much gas is at the Midnight, Texas attraction?
Uh,oh! Here comes a small army of FBI field agents. Perhaps they think I look suspicious.
Reporter for the Syfy Wire interviews a kid about the coolness of San Diego Comic-Con!

Star Wars stormtroopers riding Segways patrol the parade route during the Fourth of July in Coronado.
Check out these cool Star Wars cosplay photos! During today’s Independence Day parade in Coronado, a group of Star Wars enthusiasts strutted their stuff to the delight of the huge crowd lining Orange Avenue! It seemed to me the adults were just as excited as the kids! I was able to snap a few quick photographs. Enjoy!
A TIE fighter heads down Orange Avenue! Has the Galactic Empire taken over Coronado? Is there no hope?
Uh, oh. Look who I spotted. Darth Vader! Let’s hope it’s just a guy enjoying Star Wars cosplay.
Fear not! Rey is here to fight against the dark side of the Force!
And here comes Princess Leia in some sort of futuristic vehicle! I don’t think that TIE fighter has a chance.
I believe that is one of the Rebel Alliance’s ace pilots.
Are those a bunch of clones? No, just young kids who’ve turned into Star Wars fans!

Window near entrance to a Gaslamp retailer contains DC Comics characters and Star Wars helmets. Comic-Con is a few months away!
Walk around downtown and you’ll be reminded that San Diego is home to an international phenomenon of colossal proportions: San Diego Comic-Con!
Here are some fun photos that I took today. Are you energized? About three months to go!
I’ll be taking a whole week off–before and during San Diego Comic-Con–and blogging like crazy!
Deco Bike rental station still contains graphic from last year’s San Diego Comic-Con. The television show Colony, a science fiction series on USA Network, was being heavily promoted.
Godzilla rises at the nexus for all things pop culture. The Gaslamp is a popular playground for those attending San Diego Comic-Con.
The Tin Fish near the San Diego Convention Center still features an Emerald City canopy, nine months after last year’s Comic-Con.
Star Trek graphic on a wall in downtown San Diego’s Domino’s Pizza store. A Starfleet insignia. Going boldly where no one has gone before . . .
San Diego’s Domino’s Pizza has a fun wall with lots of pop culture imagery, including an alien, Bat signal, Mario, and the downtown skyline.
Of all the cool space helmets in the known universe, Darth Vader tops them all!
Walk around downtown and you might be reminded our fair city is home to San Diego Comic-Con!

Join me, says Darth Vader. Never, replies Luke Skywalker. An epic lightsaber battle commences.
Here’s more super cool street art! A classic battle between the dark and the light, and iconic movie characters recognized around the world are painted on two utility boxes in National City! You can spot them near the intersection of 8th Street and National City Boulevard.
This bold street art is an homage to the original Star Wars trilogy. The final four images might make you laugh!
Like a comic book or graphic novel, the right side of this utility box is painted with two more panels of Star Wars street art. I see good old R2-D2 and the white helmet of an Imperial Stormtrooper.
Bounty hunter Boba Fett, a popular Star Wars character, makes for some super cool street art! I photographed this image on the left side of the same utility box.
Pop culture icon C-3PO from Star Wars movies, television and other media has also been painted on the side of this utility box.
Wannabe Stormtrooper on a second National City utility box seems to idolize Darth Vader and his mastery of the Dark Force.
Live Set Stormtrooper likes listening to tunes while battling the Rebel Alliance. Perhaps that’s why those lasers never seem to hit anything.
Poker Face Stormtrooper has beer hoses entering his helmet and a hand of cards.
Selfie Stormtrooper thinks he looks good. Some funny Star Wars street art in National City!

Check out this fun street art! A humorous image was recently painted on a shop window in San Diego. The truth has been revealed!
The San Diego Padres will subdue their baseball enemies this year by using powerful Jedi powers. I might even go to the dark side and root for Darth Vader if that’s what it takes to win a World Series.
