Fun in San Diego at Crunchyroll Anime FanFest!

The two day Crunchyroll Anime FanFest in San Diego began this afternoon. The huge event takes place during Comic-Con 2025.

Fun, sunshine and live entertainment can be freely enjoyed by all comers at the Rady Shell, on San Diego Bay behind the convention center!

I showed up today–Friday–shortly after the family-friendly Anime FanFest opened at 1 pm. Everyone was admitted into the spacious outdoor venue quickly. Fans of anime–particularly entertainment streamed on Crunchyroll–will love the photo ops, exclusive merchandise, food, free swag, and a fan-fueled happy atmosphere.

Later on during the festival, some super popular musical acts would take the stage. Big names include SPYAIR, yama, Denzel Curry and INIKO. To see the lineup and for more details, check out the Crunchyroll website here.

I must admit, I simply love hanging out at the Rady Shell on San Diego Bay, whatever the reason. To get away from it all, for relaxation, I love to walk out on the nearby pier. I’m an older guy, so I like that sort of thing.

The Crunchyroll Anime FanFest continues tomorrow, Saturday July 26. If you want to have a relaxed chill experience, or party it up, head on over to the Rady Shell!

Demon Slayer Corps returns to San Diego!

The immensely popular Demon Slayer manga and anime is returning to San Diego for Comic-Con 2025, and there’s evidence of it already, weeks in advance.

Not only are many San Diego trolley cars wrapped with cool graphics promoting the upcoming movie Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, but now advertisements for SEGA’s video game Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2 have appeared up and down Fifth Avenue in the Gaslamp Quarter!

Seeing how popular all things Demon Slayer are, I thought it would be fun to share some cosplay photographs from past Comic-Cons. A cool car, too!

Gachiakuta trolley appears for Comic-Con 2025!

Another new trolley wrap has appeared for San Diego Comic-Con 2025! This one promotes Gachiakuta, a Japanese anime television series that will premiere on Crunchyroll on July 6.

Here’s a trailer for Gachiakuta.

Back in 2022 during Comic-Con, Crunchyroll wrapped San Diego city buses with all sorts of cool graphics from their shows. You can find those photos here!

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle trolley for Comic-Con!

It’s still May, and the first trolley wrap for Comic-Con 2025 has already appeared in San Diego! This morning I managed to take a couple good photographs!

The cool trolley graphics promote Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, a movie that’s coming on September 12, 2025. The official anime movie’s name is Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle. That’s a mouthful!

You can learn more about the upcoming movie here!

As usual, I’ll be keeping a lookout for Comic-Con stuff this year. Comic-Con will be back in full strength after the pandemic and writers strike a few years ago, so I hope to take lots of colorful photos!

UPDATE!

By sheer chance, I found myself on the same trolley the next day heading down to Barrio Logan. And I captured a couple more photos…

And a couple more…

A local artist has Umbridled Ambition!

I was walking today outside Comic-Con 2024 when I noticed an artist hanging out with some of his artwork near the San Diego Convention Center. His name is Phil, he’s a local, and his great digital art is in the anime style.

Umbridled Ambition is the name he uses to showcase and sell his art, as you can see from his Instagram page here.

Phil was sketching out another piece on his tablet as Comic-Con goers streamed past. When I paused by his table to look at his digital art, he graciously allowed me to take these photos!

Check it out!

Genshin Impact fan art exhibit at Comic-Con!

Even those who’ve never played the video game Genshin Impact will probably enjoy a great, free exhibit now showing during San Diego Comic-Con 2024. You can find it in the gallery across L Street from the Omni Hotel.

Teyvat Fashion Show Genshin Impact Fan Art Convention is the full name of the exhibition, and should you walk through the door you’ll be wowed at the really great anime-style artwork. There’s art from the video game and lots and lots of fan art. The submitted fan art is so good it appears to have been created professionally! While there’s an emphasis on fashion, the art depicts many aspects of the game.

In addition to all the art, there’s Genshin Impact merch, many photo ops, and a cool video backdrop with a treadmill that allows you to take a video of yourself walking slowly through the fantasy world of Teyvat! How cool is that?

The exhibit opens at 9:30 am each day through Sunday. I was told that some of the first fans through the door get free swag!

These photos are a tiny sample of what you’ll encounter…

Photos of Dragon Ball offsite at Comic-Con 2024!

The vast entertainment empire that is Dragon Ball is on full display in San Diego during Comic-Con 2024. Their free-to-the-public offsite activation, on the Marina Terrace behind the Marriott Marquis hotel, is a feast for the eyes to anyone who loves the movies, television shows, anime, manga, video and card games produced by Dragon Ball.

I must admit I’m no expert when it comes to Dragon Ball, but I love looking at all the graphics and detailed figurines on display. And there’s the gigantic statue of Goku, too!

I saw excited kids and adults wandering about trying to take it all in. Visitors to the offsite can try their hand at video games and learn how to play the Dragon Ball card game. They can even make Son Goku models. I was told that if you arrive at the offsite between 9 am and 11 am, you get free stuff including an awesome swag bag. I’ve done that in past years. It’s well worth it.

I wandered about like everyone else on Thursday and took some cool photos…

Goku statue rises at San Diego Comic-Con!

A big, awesome statue of Goku has risen in San Diego for Comic-Con 2024!

The cool statue will welcome visitors to the Dragon Ball offsite activation, located on the Marina Terrace behind the Marriott Marquis hotel. I was told by Daniel, the first in line for the offsite, that it will open this afternoon at 4 o’clock, before the start of Comic-Con Preview Night! It’s free to the public, and they’ll be giving out swag!

When I walked past this morning it appeared that the Dragon Ball site was mostly set up and ready to go. Among other things, the activation will be promoting the upcoming anime series Dragon Ball DAIMA, which features Goku as a leading character.
