The third trolley wrap to appear in San Diego for Comic-Con 2024 promotes the ABC television series Abbott Elementary. And you can’t possibly miss it!
The fun circus graphics refer to the Abbott Elementary A.V.A. Fest (or A Very Abbott Festival), which originated in a classic episode in the show’s second season.
Critically acclaimed through its first three seasons, Abbott Elementary has been renewed for a fourth season. The humorous interactions of its well-rounded characters has kept the good-natured sitcom fresh and enjoyable!

The Snowpiercer train was seen moving through San Diego today!
The second trolley wrap for Comic-Con 2024 promotes the popular drama, whose fourth season will premier in July on AMC!
As I snapped a several photos at a trolley station, I recognized new cast members, particularly Clark Gregg, whose well-known visage has appeared in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Avengers, Thor, and umpteen other MCU movies. (He’s not a robot, is he? Just kidding.)
Well, come to think of it, I doubt this was the actual Snowpiercer train, seeing how there weren’t hundreds of cars barreling along, and no snow whatsoever to be seen in sunny San Diego…

An odd collection of ghosts has materialized on a San Diego Trolley for Comic-Con 2024!
The first trolley wrap for San Diego Comic-Con this year features three shows that can be viewed on Paramount+. Let the fun begin!
Ghosts is a comedy that has been renewed for a fourth season. Perhaps the deceased characters became tired of haunting the same old place for so many years, and decided to startle trolley riders in San Diego!
This new wrap on a trolley car also includes promotional images for Elsbeth and Tracker.
I wonder if Justin Hartley will use some of his tracking skills acquired while wielding a bow and arrow as Oliver Queen in Smallville? Just kidding. I liked Smallville.
I’ve got my eyes open for new Comic-Con trolley wraps!

Several walls inside the San Diego History Center in Balboa Park now feature an exhibit that chronicles the fight for women’s equality, highlighting successes by women in music, entertainment, art, and society at large. The exhibit makes use of informative displays that originally appeared in 2015 at the Women’s Museum of California.
Stories of trailblazers in the popular culture are told. In the 1960s and 70s, Helen Ready, Aretha Franklin, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Carole King and others filled the airwaves with music that related the experience of women and furthered their empowerment. In television, the advancement of women could be followed in shows like That Girl and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. With the 1968 television show Julia,Diahann Carroll become the first African-American leading actor on a sitcom.
As one sign explains: During the resurgence of the larger women’s movement in the 1960s and 70s, women artists, writers, choreographers, actors, filmmakers and playwrights sought to create a new dialogue between the viewer and their art through the inclusion of women’s perspective.
Other displays in the History Center concern the historic struggle for equal rights, including the women’s right to vote, as you can see in my photographs.
A couple years ago the Women’s Museum of California moved their archives and administrative offices from their old museum at Liberty Station into the San Diego History Center. Their presence has been online.
I’m told that in the future, a special gallery inside the History Center will be set aside for Women’s Museum of California exhibits.

A crew from The Weather Channel was in San Diego this morning, covering flooding in Mission Valley caused by the rain-swollen San Diego River. It rained much of last night.
The Weather Channel had arrived for live storm coverage, aiming their cameras at high water passing treacherously over Fashion Valley Road.
I had twenty minutes to wait for a bus at the nearby transit center, so I walked down toward the river to check things out for myself. I received some smiles!
I then took a photo from the pedestrian bridge across the river to Town and Country Park, and another from the elevated Fashion Valley trolley station platform.
I had a couple more minutes, so I checked out the flooded Fashion Valley parking structure. It was actually designed to flood, believe it or not! Fortunately, no cars were caught in the water on the lowest level.
In the middle of the day, two tornado warnings were sent out to phones around the city. Apparently no tornadoes actually formed, although someone on the radio said they saw a very dark, low, rotating cloud in Spring Valley..
Was there a rainbow warning? There should have been!
Late in the afternoon, I saw how Mission Center Road was really flooded by the San Diego River. It had rained off and on all day. That car was almost completely submerged.

A big victory for donut lovers in San Diego! Downtown San Diego’s world-famous Donut Bar is the big winner of A&E food program Best in Chow!
Chef Santiago and his smiling crew conquered all opponents using a sweet Big Poppa Tart donut. My friends at the Donut Bar survived three rounds of culinary competition to claim the top prize!

Shōgun is an upcoming FX television series that will premiere on Hulu. Through this weekend, at Comic-Con 2023, dramatic fight performances can be viewed several times a day at the FX offsite on the lawn in front of the Hilton San Diego Bayfront.
A good crowd gathered this afternoon for one of the live performances. It lasted for perhaps five minutes. But as you can see in my photographs, it was very exciting.
Everyone clapped when it concluded. Then fans lined up at either end of the stage for photo opportunities with the elaborately costumed performers.
Check my photo of the sign for the times when you can watch. There was no wait to enter this expansive Comic-Con offsite, but there were long waits for the separate activations that promote several other FX shows.

Dozens of funny characters are running amok inside the Omni San Diego hotel. They’re swarming up the columns near the front desk and crowding about the elevators in the lobby. They’re even inside the elevators! Amused hotel guests can’t avoid them!
But what do you expect when it’s Comic-Con 2023, and FOX’s Animation Domination has taken over the Omni?

Yesterday I had so much fun at the Lanford Days activation at Comic-Con 2023 that I think I might swing by again today! If you’re a fan of the Roseanne TV show, you should check this out!
I’ve learned that today–Friday, July 21–many favorite Roseanne scenes will be acted out all day, from 10 am to 6 pm. You’ll be able to enjoy a new live performance about every 15 minutes. You can watch Dan get a job, watch him sell a hot tub, relive Dan’s rough day at work and more.
At noon, free “loose meat” sandwiches–made famous on the TV show–can be enjoyed while supplies last! Lunch, anyone?
The Lanford Days Festival also features carnival games where you can win great prizes. It’s all located in the Gaslamp Quarter at Sixth Avenue and E Street.
Lovers of the classic Roseanne sitcom absolutely should not miss this!

There’s a super fun offsite activation at Comic-Con 2023 that pop culture fans streaming through the Gaslamp might miss. But you shouldn’t! It’s called Roseanne Lanford Days!
Whether or not you’re a fan of the Roseanne TV show, you’ll find lots to do and lots of cool swag to win!
The activation is loosely based on the town where Roseanne and her sister Jackie worked as waitresses. Once you walk through the activation’s archway, it looks like you’ve stepped into an old-time carnival. Shoot a hoop, knock over pins, toss a ring on a bottle and you can score DVDs, Roseanne bags and shirts, magnets, stickers, and other cool stuff. There’s free popcorn, photo opportunities and live entertainment. And there a big screen TV sweepstakes you can enter, too!
Roseanne Lanford Days is located on Sixth Avenue at E Street. Look for the signs on Fifth Avenue. It’s will be open Thursday and Friday from 10am to 6pm.
