Witches and vampires arrive for Comic-Con!

Check out these eerie promotional wraps for Comic-Con 2024! They’re now being applied to the exterior of the Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter!

The building wraps advertise two spooky shows on AMC: Mayfair Witches and Interview With the Vampire. The Hilton Gaslamp is usually a venue for AMC offsite activations during San Diego Comic-Con.

I’m sure more wraps will be appearing on the Fifth Avenue and K Street sides of the building–those typically advertise shows on Amazon Prime. We shall see!

I’ll share more photos of these AMC wraps as they get closer to completion. I’ll post those pics in an update below!

UPDATE!

Signs of Halloween’s approach in San Diego!

Spider webs, skeletons, monsters, pumpkins and jack-o’-lanterns!

Signs have popped up around San Diego indicating Halloween is around the corner!

I took these photos during a very long walk today. I wandered through downtown, Little Italy, Old Town and Bay Park…

A community pumpkin patch in Waterfront Park is readied by Parks and Recreation.

An ornate ceramic jack-o’-lantern in Old Town San Diego.

Sign promotes special event in Little Italy: Trick or Treat on India Street!

These horrific creatures appear a bit sleepy. I spotted them inside a window of the San Diego Visitor Information Center near Broadway Pier.

Yes! Halloween lights are right here. Get your black lights, fog machines and mirror balls!

Will the firefighters at Bayside Fire Station No. 2 use their ladder to save this dangling skeleton?

Demons and ghouls gather in San Diego!

A horde of demons and ghouls have gathered in San Diego. The monsters have wandered to the edge of downtown and now haunt the southwest corner of Balboa Park. Should you travel through Balboa Park after dark–beware!

Disbelieve me? Check out these photos! I took them today!

Yes, I walked around the perimeter of The Haunted Trail, San Diego’s popular outdoor haunted house that is designed to make you jump with fright! Halloween has never been so spooky, scream-worthy and fun!

These photos were darkened for maximum scary effect. Boo!

New Blood runs through San Diego for Comic-Con!

Check out this new San Diego trolley wrap for Comic-Con 2023! I got these photos today. The graphics promote products created by video game publisher New Blood Interactive!

Images afire with fantasy and horror relate to the games Amid Evil, Gloomwood and Dusk.

Hear Your Heart Stop on a Comic-Con trolley!

Hear your heart stop? It might happen when you listen to Impact Winter on Audible, or if terror grips you as you step onto this spooky Comic-Con 2023 trolley!

I caught this trolley wrap today at the Linda Vista Station.

You might recall Audible had those three awesome sand sculptures along MLK Promenade outside Comic-Con last year. One sculpture promoted this same Impact Winter audio series: it’s a world-gone-dark post-comet-impact vampire apocalypse!

I posted photographs of those great Audible sand sculptures here!

Scary bites of Halloween at the Donut Bar!

One of my favorite haunts in downtown San Diego is the Donut Bar.

This morning I found Halloween treats that are deliciously scary!

Grave Digger! Skull Cake! Boo Boston Creme!

A Triple Chocolate Threat with tiny sprinkled Bat-o’-lanterns is what my ravenous fangs sank into!

Eerie, mysterious night photos downtown!

The photographs that follow are mysterious. Many are eerie. All were taken at night in downtown San Diego.

About half of these images were captured this evening after nightfall, as I walked from the Gaslamp Quarter toward Cortez Hill. Other photos (such as the one with the moon) have been sitting in my computer for a long time. I was waiting for an appropriate theme.

I must say San Diego has come back to life after the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. This evening I saw crowds converging on the San Diego Symphony’s new Shell on the Embarcadero, conventioneers partying and enjoying a sunset view from atop the San Diego Convention Center, and large Friday night crowds walking through and dining in the beautifully lit Gaslamp Quarter.

But even when surrounded by a bright whirl of life, one can find strangeness lurking in the dark…

Very scary, spooky photos for Halloween!

Two weeks ’til Halloween!

The deadly creatures are creeping closer, closer… Ghouls, vampires, zombies, demons… Before you know it they’ll be gathered at your door… The approaching horror is inescapable!

Most of these very scary, spooky photographs were taken in past years around Halloween. Ghosts, grim reapers, demons and bloodthirsty monsters were encountered in Balboa Park on the Haunted Trail. The deformed zombies? I took those photos during Comic-Con! An elegantly dressed skeleton couple materialized in front of my camera in Old Town on Dia de los Muertos. Other frightening faces appeared just before Halloween in shop windows!

Are some of the images vaguely familiar? I changed these color photographs to grayscale, then darkened many, blurred a few slightly. So that you might be properly terrified!

Trick or treat!
