Cosplay dogs to the rescue in San Diego!

Costumed dog superheroes converged on San Diego’s Balboa Park today in order to perform feats of heroism at PAWmicon!

With the assistance of kind-hearted humans (some of whom also wore costumes) the cosplay canines helped to raise money and awareness for the Helen Woodward Animal Center, a nationally known animal shelter here in San Diego!

While PAWmicon isn’t associated with Comic-Con, it usually takes place around the week of San Diego’s big international pop culture event.

If you’re so inclined, would you help the Helen Woodward Animal Center by visiting their website here?

You, too, could be a superhero! Loving shelter animals are waiting for you to come to their rescue!

Would this four-footed Wonder Woman win the canine cosplay contest?

Princess Leia (aka Jessica Gercke) is a Helen Woodward Animal Center superstar who has helped saved countless animals. Perhaps you’ve seen her on San Diego television. I looked for Luke and Han but they must have been in a galaxy far away.

Another great dog/human cosplay combo! The Queen of Hearts!

Pikachu joined by two happy Pokémon pups.

Captain America was on hand! Check out his The Rise of Tiny Heroes comic here!

Krypto the Superdog has arrived to save the day! (Can Supergirl be far behind?)

I spun Mario’s wheel and got 2 of 3 pop culture questions correct! The difficult category stumped me.

It’s another four-legged Wonder Woman! Has she entangled a nearby villain with her Lasso of Truth?

Test your Fantastic Four powers at Comic-Con!

Do you possess world-saving superpowers?

Can you stretch like Marvel’s super genius Mister Fantastic, or project force fields like the Invisible Woman, or clobber evil supervillains like The Thing, or Flame On like the Human Torch?

You’ll have the chance to find out in San Diego at Comic-Con 2025!

This elaborate offsite activation, a collaboration between Google Play and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, is still being built, just a day before Comic-Con Preview Night. They’ve been working on it longer than any other Comic-Con offsite. It promises to be amazing!

The public can travel on a moving walkway through interactive pods where their Fantastic Four superpowers are tested. I wonder–will anybody be deemed powerful enough to defeat Galactus?

Learn more about this Google Play Rewards Lab activation here, and see what collectibles your points can earn!

The Fantastic Four offsite will be open on the grassy area next to the Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter hotel this coming Thursday through Sunday! Looks awesome!

Meet cosplayers at the Comic-Con blood drive!

Those who give blood at this year’s Comic-Con blood drive get a special added inducement. You’ll get to meet a bunch of super cool cosplayers!

Costumed members of the San Diego Causeplayer Community will be on hand at the 49th Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive, San Diego Blood Bank’s largest and longest-running blood drive. (With all that blood sucking action, I wonder whether Blade or Dracula will be there?) Donors will also receive a free Fantastic Four T-shirt from Marvel Studios and other goodies!

If you’re interested in donating blood this year, head down to Grand Hall A at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel during San Diego Comic-Con. Better yet, follow this link to make an appointment.

Look who I saw today in Gaslamp Square! Dude Vader and several of his cosplaying friends!

Godzilla painted at BAIT for Comic-Con!

Check out this brand new mural painted at the BAIT store in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter! Godzilla has arrived just in time for Comic-Con 2025!

I spied the new artwork as I walked up Fifth Avenue this morning. As of this moment I don’t know the artist, or anything more about it.

I see on the BAIT Instagram they’ll have at Tokidoki brand popup at their store during Comic Con from July 23rd until the 27th.

Cool!

Cool graphics from Alien: Earth at Comic-Con!

I love these super cool graphics on the fence of the FX offsite at San Diego Comic-Con 2025. They promote the upcoming original series Alien: Earth.

It appears planet Earth is in serious trouble!

Buttworld Bounce House at San Diego Comic-Con!

Bottoms up San Diego! This isn’t your ordinary bounce house. It’s the Rick and Morty Buttworld Bounce House!

The Adult Swim offsite for Comic-Con 2025 is now being built behind the San Diego Convention Center. And right next to the boardwalk are giant rolls of toilet paper, massive plungers, and a bunch of fat, gross, inflated behinds! Yes, this activation might be ass-inine, butt… What fun!

Do you dare enter the bouncy Buttworld dimension? What if other Adult Swim visitors have eaten beans? How sanitary is this? But–but–but–

Voodoo Ranger “pirate ship” arrives for Comic-Con!

The “pirate ship” promoting Voodoo Ranger IPA arrived behind the San Diego Convention Center early this morning, in time for Comic-Con 2025! The amazing ship is now docked across the bayside boardwalk from the King of the Hill offsite, between two other Comic-Con offsites: Brawl Stars and Abbott Elementary.

Why is “pirate ship” written in quotes? Because this beautiful tall ship, San Salvador, is actually a faithful replica of the Spanish galleon Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo sailed in when he discovered San Diego Bay in 1542!

This modern day San Salvador was built by the Maritime Museum of San Diego back in 2015, and is now a seaworthy part of the museum’s ship collection.

Would you like to see photographs of San Salvador being built in Spanish Landing park, near San Diego International Airport? If you would, click here!

Do you live in San Diego? Do you love ships, history and adventure? Join me in becoming a Maritime Museum of San Diego member!

The Voodoo Ranger’s black pirate sails will beckon Comic-Con visitors who are looking for music, live entertainment, drink and a good time. The floating activation will be open to the public Thursday through Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm.

Bad Guys, Predator, Superman and more outside Comic-Con!

New stuff outside Comic-Con 2025 keeps popping up! Look what I stumbled upon while walking around downtown San Diego this afternoon, two days before Preview Night!

First, check out the Gaslamp Quarter sign! It has been taken over by The Bad Guys 2! Some panels were on the nearby sidewalk, too. Not sure where they’re going to be placed…

Workers were putting up large frames along Harbor Drive near the trolley tracks. And into the frames go Peacemaker graphics…

Still putting up Comic-Con graphics on the San Diego Convention Center…

The Gaslamp is filling up with Comic-Con goodness. Check out some of the awesome AMC graphics…

Work continues on the Percy Jackson offsite at Gaslamp Square…

A spaceship has landed at the southeast corner of the Hard Rock Hotel. I was told there will be a Predator: Badlands screening here!

The Rookie and Abbott Elementary building wraps on Petco Park grow…

That vertical banner workers were having trouble with this morning is now attached to the corner of the Hilton’s parking garage. It promotes Little Nightmares III.

Some cool graphics have appeared on one fence at the Alien: Earth offsite by FX.

Another surprise! I was told this offsite in the courtyard beside the Hilton San Diego Bayfront will concern Superman! It’s a collaboration between DC Comics and Old Spice. I’m told there will be photo ops.

Adult Swim is shaping up slowly…

The fun Abbott Elementary Block Party is also shaping up…

The Coca Cola/Star Wars activation is taking shape at First Avenue on MLK Promenade near Harbor Drive…

The Fantastic Four mural near their offsite is about done, looking cool…

I’ve come full circle back to the Gaslamp Quarter, where STARZ wraps are still being applied to the Hard Rock Hotel…

The IGN balcony is about ready at the Hard Rock. Which celebrities will be spotted here?

I peeked inside The Lodge and found Mission: Impossible!

Outside, Happy Does’ yellow smiley face has been replaced with the Paramount mountain logo!

Special donuts at Pendry hotel for Comic-Con!

Very special donuts will be available at the Pendry San Diego hotel during Comic-Con!

Swing by Thursday to Sunday after 7 am and you can sink your teeth into Superman, Spider-Man, Stitch, a Labubu and more!

These yummy creations come from San Diego’s world-famous Donut Bar. You’ll be able to purchase them at the Donut Bar’s downtown store, as well.

The Pendry San Diego hotel is located in the Gaslamp Quarter (not far from the convention center) at Fifth Avenue and J Street. Look for the donuts out by the Fifth Avenue sidewalk.

The Donut Bar is located at 401 West A Street. That’s where I took these photographs!

More cool stuff outside Comic-Con: 2 days to go!

More and more cool stuff is showing up in downtown San Diego, with only two days to go until Preview Night of Comic-Con 2025!

I took another walk this Monday morning through the Gaslamp Quarter and around the San Diego Convention Center. Hundreds of workers are all over the place, preparing building wraps and offsite activations. A couple of offsites have newly appeared this morning, too!

Here we go!

The Fantastic Four/ Google Play offsite is becoming ever more amazing. They’ve been working on it for about a week. Whatever the heck it is, it will be sure to draw a crowd to the grassy area next to the Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter!

Peanuts has begun moving into their usual location on Martin Luther King Jr. Promenade. It’s the 75th Anniversary of Charlie Brown, Snoopy and gang!

And right next door, the Doctor Who offsite promises to be amazing, too. I saw them moving tons of stuff from BBC Studios into this activation the other day.

Workers were beginning to set up an activation beside MLK Promenade at First Avenue. I learned it will concern Coca Cola and Star Wars!

I made my way behind the San Diego Convention Center.

The Abbott Elementary Block Party has made a tiny bit of progress since yesterday…

The King of the Hill offsite now has their water tower!

More activity spotted beyond the fence…

The Brawl Stars barge, location of Starr Park, is looking ever more cool. What’s inside Mike’s Mine?

A bit more activity at Adult Swim…

I’m afraid the FX offsite is almost entirely blocked by fences now. Oh, well.

As I walked to the Hilton San Diego Bayfront parking garage, some guys were having trouble hanging a long banner on the structure’s corner…

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again…

The Harbor Drive side of the parking structure has a cool new banner! It promotes Digimon Story: Time Stranger.

Building wraps are now going up on Petco Park. I recognized ABC’s The Rookie…

This spot on the grass near the Omni hotel will feature a billboard, pointing fans to the Brawl Stars offsite behind the convention center…

I see MTS has most of the Comic-Con trolley wraps now on the Green Line, which passes the convention center. Here’s one…

With only a couple more days to finish the Disney+ offsite, Percy Jackson and the Olympians is busy transforming Gaslamp Square…

The Lounge of Paramount+ is also preparing for San Diego Comic-Con’s opening. I got a peek inside. Popcorn, anyone?

Lastly, Kaluú Restaurant & Bar on Fifth Avenue is being transformed into Alice in Wonderland: Down The Rabbit Hole!

Watch for more updates!
