Marvin the Martian salutes as a space rocket rises.
I believe this cool Marvin the Martian Space Clones mural was painted during San Diego Comic-Con, but I noticed it for the first time yesterday as I walked through Little Italy. It’s painted on the front of the Blick Art Materials store on India Street.
The early morning sun was casting a tree’s dark shadow onto the mural. The effect is interesting–almost psychedelic.
Bugs Bunny watch out! Marvin has his lethal ray gun ready to zap, and he’s a tad bit smarter than Yosemite Sam!
Marvin the Martian, lurking in a mural, awaits two unsuspecting humans who are walking down a Little Italy sidewalk.Marvin the Martian was created to resemble the Roman god of war Mars. Bugs Bunny, watch out! That’s no Elmer Fudd!Marvin the Martian is ready to conquer planet Earth. But somehow I don’t think he’ll succeed.

Three canine celebrities get their photo taken during PAWmicon. Cosplay goes to the dogs.
The humans can’t have all the fun during Comic-Con!
Check out some photos of dog cosplay at today’s PAWmicon event, which took place at Hazard Center. Helen Woodward Animal Center had adoptable dogs dressed up as superheroes, and friendly pups proceeded to save smiling humans! As the bumper sticker says: Who rescued who?
Dogs brought by those attending the event were also dressed up for a costume contest. I know–a bit silly–but every two-legged and four-legged critter at PAWmicon seemed quite happy!
Helen Woodward Animal Center created PAWmicon to help adoptable dogs find loving homes. Cosplay for a cause.I spotted Hairy Pawter in the Dogwarts Express.Bat-dog was keeping an eye on the mayhem.I see Harley-canine and Super-growl.Bat-dog returned to the relative safety of Gotham. San Diego is just too crazy.A cosplay dog is a star of the show. The furriest critter around wasn’t a pooch–it was Chewbacca! Not sure what superhero this dog is dressed up to be. Perhaps some sort of Captain Paw-merica.Here comes Scooby Doo. He ate so many Scooby snacks, he outgrew the Mystery Machine!

A desert island can be found directly behind the convention center, floating on San Diego Bay. There you’ll find the Wrecked Pop-Up Island Tour during 2017 Comic-Con!
Perhaps you’ve considered getting Wrecked while walking about during 2017 Comic-Con. Well, here’s what you need to do. Head directly behind the San Diego Convention Center and look for the small, flat, strangely rectangular desert island floating on the bay. You might note some palm trees on this island, and a conveniently wrecked aircraft. And a rather large hashtag. That’s where you need to go.
I’ll share some photos of my fun visit this afternoon. Then perhaps you might check out the second season of Wrecked on TBS which just started in June…
I feared this guy might film me riding the wild boar, so I avoided making too big a fool of myself. At first I thought this flight attendant was seating passengers on the wrecked aircraft. Looks to me like a nice shady spot–just avoid the sharp edges!Instead, she introduced me to a primitive hut full of friends. You know–the type Tom Hanks had in the movie Castaway.Someone might have finally captured that wild boar running about the island.Does this explain the name Wrecked?I wonder if they use the dials on that ruined aircraft instrument panel to keep score while playing miniature golf?Fortunately, the Watering Hole isn’t very far from the Lotus Air Lavatories!Thank you for a fun tour of the island! Maybe getting Wrecked during Comic-Con ain’t so bad after all!

Breezy bird street art on Mission Center Road depicts a funny beach scene.
Four months ago I shared some colorful street art that I found on several electrical boxes in Mission Valley. You can revisit that blog post here. As you can see, one of the images was a sketch of a gull at a beach carrying away a bag of chips–a humorous work in progress. Well, that work is now completed, as well as another side of the same box! The artwork is by Brise Birdsong.
Just a note–the colors were light, so I had to increase the contrast in the photos quite a bit.
All that and a bag of chips!A wacky gull, pelican and sea lions add humor to a drive through Mission Valley!

A huge shark has appeared at the Quartyard in East Village!
Some cool new urban artwork has appeared at the Quartyard since my last visit. Some day I need to grab a bite here, or attend an event! Looks like a really fun place!
New urban artwork in the Quartyard gathering place at the corner of Park Boulevard and Market Street in San Diego.Impermanence is the only permanent in life. So embrace that nothing should be clung to as I, me, or mine.Picnic table in the Quartyard reads beer, next to a planter with fun artwork.Several planters have their sides painted with whimsical faces. These characters are eating food-like letters and pulling tongues.More happy, silly faces.Lots of tongue pulling going on.Tired tongues dangling.Just plain silly.A mural by the Quartyard stage attracts attention.Keep going! You got this! Yay!

It’s true! I have indisputable proof of what many in San Diego will never believe. I took the shocking photograph a couple days ago at Petco Park.
For the first time ever in recorded history, that outspoken, highly opinionated San Diego Padres and SDSU Aztecs play-by-play radio announcer Ted Leitner aka Uncle Teddy . . . was left . . . wordless!

Santa Claus appeared this morning in Little Italy. He bought a yummy pizza at Landini’s Pizzeria. I guess a good pizza is hard to come by at the North Pole.
I didn’t expect to see Santa this morning in Little Italy! What was he doing there?
I walked up and down India Street spying on the exploits of Santa and his merry Christmas pals. Read the photo captions and you’ll learn what I discovered…
Possibly to flag down Santa while he flew by overhead, a Buon Natale banner was hung on a street lamp in San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood.Apparently Santa left his sleigh and went into Filippi’s Pizza Grotto to get another pizza.I hope Santa doesn’t neglect to put those presents in his sleigh under the Little Italy Christmas tree.Thank goodness! He hasn’t forgotten. Strange, but now he’s flying a train onto rooftops. When you’re full of Christmas magic, you can do things like that.I wonder if this nutcracker likes pizza. Chances are he prefers walnuts.Rudolph and an elf are also hanging out in Little Italy while Santa pays his visit. It seems all sorts of odd folk love Italian food!I hope and pray Santa brought lots of gifts. He’d better not forget Little Italy’s poinsettia tree in Piazza Basilone. That’s nice. This happy elf brought candy canes. Obviously, Santa with his big jolly belly likes to constantly eat.Candy canes and pasta in a window of an Italian market. Perhaps it’s a tasty combination, perhaps not.Hey Santa! I see you’re still hanging around Little Italy. You must be really hungry!Santa can’t get enough to eat, it seems. He accidentally stepped into a foodless Little Italy shop and has already grown pale from hunger. Time for more pizza!Wait! What is Frosty the Snowman up to in that window?Oh, dear! Frosty grabbed the pizza! What will Santa do?

A bizarre, extremely rare animal was discovered yesterday at the old Jerome’s warehouse in San Diego’s East Village.
Look what I discovered! I was walking down the sidewalk near the old, dilapidated Jerome’s warehouse in East Village when something caught my astonished eye! A weird, bizarre animal jumped at me from the crumbling building!
This particular weird creature did not jump out of the Coliseum. I know the Colosseum in Rome is filled with feral cats.Look! On the Jerome’s warehouse wall! It’s a bizarre rat-like animal that farts green gas! Artist Adam Hathorn is Honkey Kong!

A turkey has been recently spotted lurking in San Diego.
A turkey has been discovered lurking in San Diego! I have photographic proof!
Perhaps the bird in question is Turkey Lurkey, because the lurking bird is an especially quirky turkey whose movements are murky! I’ve spotted the funny fowl everywhere! Either that, or Thanksgiving is fast approaching!
I spied a turkey drinking coffee as I walked down a sidewalk. This turkey likes to say gobble, gobble. A bird of few words. This happy turkey dressed like a Pilgrim has taken to the sky to welcome y’all! Is this Turkey Lurkey? Because I caught this beady-eyed turkey lurking, so that would make perfect sense. Right? This sneaky bird has grabbed a grilled cheese sandwich. Save some for the hungry food court customers!A funny turkey on a shop window wishes everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
