A hungry zombie eyes dinner at 2017 San Diego Comic-Con . . . and it’s me!
If you are nervous or squeamish, don’t look at these photos or read the captions. I’m warning you. It’s all quite gruesome.
The events you are about to witness happened today at 2017 San Diego Comic-Con. Some of the fans were completely unprepared for what happened…
Everyone was having a great time at Comic-Con. I was just wandering about, not paying very close attention. That place looks cool. I’ll go check that out. I wonder what they mean by Deadquarters? They’ve got a nice lounge! Awesome! My feet are tired!Let’s all sit here and watch AMC’s show The Walking Dead. How entertaining and relaxing.Oh, wow! They’ve got pinball, too! This place rocks!A lady suddenly screamed and started running! Huh? What happened?Oh my gosh. That door says Dead Inside, and some hands are trying to open it from the inside.Oh my goodness! They’ve got zombies loose in here! Where’d they come from.Thank goodness this one doesn’t seem to see me.But this one does!Get away from me! I probably don’t taste all that good! The Walking Dead Encounter! I wish I’d seen that sooner. Maybe some caffeine from a Mountain Dew will help me escape . . .I see fans of The Walking Dead are learning fighting skills to fend off these hungry zombies.A tiny version of Deadpool was swinging a bat wrapped with barbed wire. I think he nailed a couple zombies.Over here, quick! Help! Where’s that little superhero?Nobody seems to take these zombies very seriously. Watch out, people! They actually appear to be hungry!Told you so!

Many people in San Diego County, unfortunately, are hungry. Food collected during this special holiday food drive will be distributed to soup kitchens, pantries, shelters and schools.
If you’re in or around La Jolla, today I learned about a holiday food drive with nearby drop-off locations. The Heart to Hands Food Drive San Diego is run by Candi DeMoura, who has raised 2776 pounds of food in the past 3 years. Wow!
Please visit her San Diego Food Drive website. It lists the types of food that are accepted. There are several places to drop off food, including the La Jolla Farmers Market and Coldwell Banker on Prospect Street.
Together we can work to beat hunger in San Diego!
Heart to Hands Food Drive San Diego supports people in need. You can help! Visit the website to learn how! (Click this image to enlarge the flyer so that you can read it.)
Please help Stuff the Bus to fight hunger in San Diego!
San Diego’s Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is getting ready for their 8th Annual Stuff the Bus Food Drive!
You can help fight hunger in San Diego by collecting non-perishable food and by spreading the word in advance!
On December 5, between 9 am and 2 pm, MTS buses will be parked in front of Albertsons and VONS stores throughout San Diego County. The objective will be to fill the buses with food to aid the hungry! Your friends, business or organization can collect canned goods and other nonperishables and help stuff a bus, or you can purchase preselected grocery items inside the stores. When the event ends, the food will be transported to the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, which is the largest hunger-relief organization in San Diego County.
Click here for store locations, the food items needed, and other important details!
Come on San Diego! Let’s jam those buses with love!

Fintan Magee, famous Australian street artist, painted the “Hunger” mural in San Diego’s East Village.
Some cool, thought-provoking street art was painted on the west wall of the old Jerome’s warehouse about half a year ago. It’s part of the Sea Walls Project, a collaboration with PangeaSeed to provide a view of the tuna industry (which used to be very important in San Diego decades ago). Titled “Hunger”, the huge street mural is by world-famous street artist Fintan Magee, who is often described as Australia’s Banksy!
As you might recall, the south side of this old East Village building contains the MOOPA ArtWall.
A tuna fisherman’s hand and his bound, bloody catch emerge from a pile of fish.An uprooted tree is weirdly suspended behind a real tree growing from a San Diego sidewalk.Fisherman in yellow slicker seems to release a seagull from a tangle of fishing line.
Got extra fruit? Got time? Help fight hunger and have a load of fun, too!
Do you love to be out in the San Diego sunshine, among friendly people and fragrant fruit trees? Do you hate to see delicious, nutritious fruit just lying there on the ground, beginning to rot? Do you, perhaps, own fruit trees in your backyard and struggle to give the abundant harvest away? Would you like to help some hungry people?
If you’re looking for a fun opportunity to volunteer and make a positive change in the lives of San Diegans, read on! Some fantastic ladies whom I met at EarthFair need your help! They’re the Glean Queens!
These three ladies are making the world a better place. Join them!
The Glean Queens have undertaken a very important project. It’s called CropSwap. The perfectly named CropSwap (part of their organization ProduceGood) solves a huge problem. The problem of tragically wasted food–locally grown fruit, to be exact.
Sunny Southern California is thick with citrus and other fruit trees. Many residents have them on their property. Many of the established trees provide more fruit than a family can possibly use. Why should the excess become useless garbage?
Help save valuable, nutritious oranges, lemons, limes, avocados, tangerines…you name it!
According to the USDA, a whopping 40% of crops go to waste. And here’s another shocking statistic: 20% of San Diegans have difficulty getting enough food to eat.
CropSwap coordinates fruit tree owners and volunteer pickers, and arranges the collection of excess fruit that would otherwise be wasted. The fruit is then delivered to San Diego food banks. An excellent (and common sense) idea!
So all you fruit tree owners and future volunteer pickers in and around San Diego! Click here to visit the ProduceGood website and learn how you can personally help, in a very tangible and rewarding way, to fight hunger!
You can easily make a positive difference in San Diego!
Spread the word!
