Wile E. Coyote was spotted this morning peering secretly from a window in downtown San Diego. Dressed in business attire, which was almost certainly a clever disguise, the patient cartoon character seemed to be waiting for his breakfast: The Road Runner.
As I walked down Fifth Avenue by the window in question Wile E. Coyote remained perfectly still. Like a cat. He appeared ready to activate another of his diabolical schemes. For a moment I hesitated with vague fear, searching the sidewalk and building above for a dangling anvil, a rocket or a large spring. Nothing.
And so, breathing a sigh of relief, I safely walked past the Chuck Jones Gallery in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter.

Tiny dogs surf mighty waves in Imperial Beach during the 11th Annual Unleashed by Petco Surf Dog Competition!
And now for something on the light side. Surfing dogs!
Enjoy these funny photos of tiny dogs riding “huge” ocean waves near the pier at Imperial Beach! This morning I swung by the 11th Annual Unleashed by Petco Surf Dog Competition, just to check out the action. The first 10-minute heat featured smaller breeds. These dogs are some of the most talented surfing athletes you’re likely to ever see! Well . . . maybe. But they definitely appeared to be having fun!
All you non-dog athletes, take note! No aspiration is too lofty! No wave is too large!

Saturday evening, an army of zombies was spotted gathering in San Diego’s Children’s Park, getting ready to attack thousands of innocent humans attending 2016 Comic-Con.
I made it out alive. As you’ll see–just barely.
The 2016 San Diego Comic-Con zombie walk featured a huge army of bloodthirsty undead. They gathered in Children’s Park this evening and prepared to attack innocent humans hanging around San Diego’s nearby Gaslamp Quarter. I got away before the carnage began.
I was quickly reminded that I was living meat, so I kept a very careful distance. And I prayed these were slow zombies.The undead kept gravitating toward the city park. Where they came from, I don’t know. They were on a mission. They planned to swarm into the nearby Gaslamp Quarter, where it was dinnertime and they could feast on innocent diners.Many of these walking dead appeared to be in a rather poor state of health. Why did they keep eyeing me?Goodness! Even a magical woodland fairy succumbed to the zombie plague. I’m not sure why I’m hanging around.Oh, horrors! Trump and Hillary have both become zombies! I guess we’re all doomed no matter what.I’ve seen this gruesome dude before. I think I have a photo of him on my blog from another San Diego zombie walk. I guess the undead really never die.This guy could use a moist towelette and very large bandage.How sweet. Mom zombie and son zombie are going to join the coming rampage. Family time together is so heartwarming and wonderful.Unless, of course, Mom zombie takes a bite of her undead son. I guess she couldn’t wait to seek out normal human flesh.This must be the hippest, best dressed zombie I ever saw. A hostess might be tricked and let him into one of those more fancy restaurants in the Gaslamp.When you’re a zombie, and you want to video the coming carnage, what do you do? You jam a GoPro directly into your bloody skull. Just keep the lens clean.I don’t think plastic surgery will fix that.The zombies listened (to the best of their ability) as the plan of attack was laid before them. The city’s living residents seemed completely doomed. I thought it wise at this point to discretely walk away.Oh, no! Too late!

One of the three large Son of Zorn banners hung on the parking garage of the Hilton San Diego Bayfront for 2016 Comic-Con.
Zorn the friendly warrior has invaded downtown San Diego! This morning I spotted him right next to the convention center! He’s “hanging out” on three enormous banners draping the parking garage of the Hilton San Diego Bayfront!
I’m not sure where his son is… Perhaps the two got separated in the large San Diego Comic-Con crowd depicted in the fun promotional graphic!
I haven’t observed any Comic-Con wraps applied to buildings yet; right now, the only huge building wrap near the San Diego Convention Center is that MLB All-Star Game one on the Marriott Marquis that I posted several days ago…
Hang tight! The fun around here is just getting started!
The Son of Zorn, an imaginative television show combining animation and live action, will premiere on September 25 on FOX.Zorn the friendly warrior seems to be walking through a San Diego Comic-Con crowd. In addition to a sword, he’s got his badge, a soda and smartphone handy!

Just like last summer, 2016 San Diego Comic-Con trolley wraps sponsored by TBS feature Conan O’Brien turned into crazy Funko Pop! characters.
Here are photos of what will probably be the final trolley wrap for 2016 San Diego Comic-Con. I hope I’m proven wrong!
Today a number of trolleys cars featuring brand new Conan O’Brien Funko Pop! figures began heading up and down the Green Line; I counted at least five cars so far. The wrap is quite similar to last year’s TBS Comic-Con offering, but this time Conan has been transformed into four completely different pop culture characters.
In 2016 Conan is Superman, a Stormtrooper, a Ghostbuster and Joker. Of course, movies involving these characters are either imminent or on the way, so the wraps work as advertisements for those movies, for Funko Pop! vinyl figure toys, for San Diego Comic-Con, and lastly for Conan O’Brien’s talk show on TBS.
I’ve heard that like last year, Conan will be performing live at the Spreckels Theater on Broadway in downtown San Diego. Catch him and his inimitable humor starting July 20!

He might be damaged, but he has nowhere near enough tattoos.Looks to me as if Conan is a Star Wars Stormtrooper here. He must’ve lost his helmet.Yes, here’s Conan as a Ghostbuster, trying not to be slimed. Even though those black eyes make him look possessed and evil.And finally Conan O’Brien has been turned into good old Superman. Not sure if this is the cranky good old Superman who sometimes kills his enemies.

A new FOX television show, Son of Zorn, advertised on a San Diego trolley. Comic-Con graphics are slowly beginning to appear in San Diego.
Today I spotted the first cool trolley wrap for the fast-approaching 2016 San Diego Comic-Con!
Check out these photos. I had to time my shots strategically, because the trolleys don’t wait at a station for very long!
Each side of this San Diego trolley car advertises a separate television show; both will debut this coming Fall season on FOX. First up you see graphics for Son of Zorn, which involves an animated warrior character among live-action family members. It’s a unique comedy idea that sounds weird but fun! The second side of the trolley wrap advertises The Exorcist, which is already a cultural phenomenon.
I’m positive more 2016 San Diego Comic-Con trolley wraps are on the way, so stay tuned!
Animated warrior Zorn will be coping with live-action family members (including his son) in an unusual hybrid television comedy on FOX this Fall. Taking a stab at the real world.The first 2016 San Diego Comic-Con trolley wrap has debuted in June! Both sides of this trolley advertise upcoming television shows on FOX.And here comes the other side of the exact same trolley car. Another brand new FOX television offering, The Exorcist, is being promoted with eerie blood red graphics.The Exorcist appears on one side of a San Diego trolley. This enormous moving ad for the new FOX show will be seen by thousands of pop culture fans attending Comic-Con next month. Today it’s operating on the Green Line, which goes right past the convention center!Starting July 20, which is Preview Night, San Diego Comic-Con will become the international center of entertainment and popular culture. I expect to see more trolley wraps in the weeks ahead!

Just inside the O’Brien Gate at the 2016 San Diego County Fair. This year’s theme is Alice in Wonderland.
I have photographic proof that Alice has popped back out of the rabbit hole. In fact, she has emerged from Wonderland only to find herself smack dab in the middle of the San Diego County Fair!
Yes, the slogan this year is “Mad About the Fair.” And should you head up to Del Mar and purchase a ticket, you’ll find yourself among thousands of San Diegans enjoying scenes and characters from the classic children’s book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by the immortal author Lewis Carroll.
The San Diego County Fair is a wonderful place to enjoy a lazy summer’s day no matter what the theme. You can eat deep fried Twinkies, take a ride in the Fun Zone, toss a ring at a bottle, and see all sorts of cool performances, craft exhibits and livestock. But this year it might be better than ever. Alice in Wonderland is just too much fun.
Walking down the good old midway. Once known as the Del Mar Fair, the county fair is a wildly popular summer attraction in Southern California.There’s a White Rabbit walking along! Don’t follow him! You don’t know where he might lead!Alice falls down the rabbit hole. This student created a very nice visual composition.More fantastic art. Alice tries to make her way through endless weirdness and absurdity.One of many fun displays outside at the Paul Ecke Jr. Garden Show. I see the grinning Cheshire Cat and all sorts of other Alice in Wonderland stuff.Some steampunk contraptions at the outdoor garden show. I see a cool steampunk washing machine and a weird metal Mad Hatter taking a shower.Another fun entry at the garden show. These gardens seem to contain many teacups and mushrooms.Flowers, butterflies and trees shaped like hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs.The Queen of Hearts wants people to have their photo taken here. Or it’s off with their heads, I suppose.It’s Tweedledum and Tweedledee. They’re from the sequel to Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, the equally classic Through the Looking-Glass.Some more fun Alice in Wonderland pottery characters created by The Madd Potter.A long colorful mural above some fair vendors depicts beloved characters created by Lewis Carroll. Their appearance has evolved due to popular culture and now incorporate steampunk elements like goggles.Alice plays flamingo croquet in a fantasy world full of rampant irrationality and nonsense.Even the Cheshire Cat has gone steampunk!Get ready to enter the Mad About the Fair exhibit. It’s dark inside, so many photos didn’t turn out so good.I’ve spotted Alice! She’s passing a huge hat possibly worn by The Hatter. He must have one huge head.One display highlights differently illustrated Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland books over the years. Some are imaginative adaptations or interpretations.A super long table in the exhibit was set for an epic tea party!A whole variety of displays paid homage to the Steampunk genre. Here are some Victorian ladies in cool steampunk top hats.A very cool steampunk mechanical man made of brass gears, with a glass globe for its head.Clocks seem to be a common Wonderland motif. All sorts of fun old clocks were displayed on this wall. I didn’t see the White Rabbit’s pocket watch.The cool artwork of singing legend Grace Slick was on display! You might remember the Jefferson Airplane smash hit White Rabbit.The White Rabbit represents curiosity–always in a hurry and just out of reach. He is a moving mystery.Alice awaits at the 2016 San Diego County Fair. Follow her back down into the rabbit hole, if you dare!
