With about a week and a half to go until the start of Comic-Con 2024, more and more signs are appearing around San Diego that anticipate the epic international pop culture convention!
I took these photographs this morning during a walk in downtown San Diego–through the Gaslamp Quarter, East Village and Seaport Village.

This lowrider is named Timeless. It was on display today in San Diego during the Day at the Bay 2024 car show.
I saw dozens of amazing cars as I walked about the show, but I had to stop in my tracks when I spotted Timeless. It’s beyond incredible!
According to one sign, Timeless is an original lowrider first built in the 1970s whose multiple modifications and endless paint jobs have kept it relevant for more than 40 years. This work of art, with a local and national reputation, is said to be the most iconic lowrider in San Diego. It was built from a 1964 Riviera.
Timeless is a fantastic dream come true.
Look at the crazy interior! How would you like to take a ride in this?

A huge event showcasing lowriders, classic cars, bikes and tattoo artists could be enjoyed today at Day At The Bay 2024!
Hundreds of cars were out on display at Embarcadero Marina Park North on San Diego Bay. Late this morning I walked around admiring these vehicles, which are true works of art. You could see how local car enthusiasts have gone all out to make their ride absolutely amazing.
Let me share this collection of cool photographs!

The 12th Annual East Village Block Party is being held today along several blocks of J Street, just north of Petco Park. The event, usually held on the San Diego Padres opening weekend, was originally scheduled for March 20, but rainy weather that day caused a postponement. In 2024 it’s a summer block party!
I walked along J Street late this morning to absorb some of the festive atmosphere. Many of San Diego’s other sports teams were present. There was music and art and lots of smiling Padres fans. And there was a ton of food, too!
If you read this in time, you might head down to the East Village Block Party before it ends at 4:30 pm. It takes place on J Street between 7th and 10th Avenue.

Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Park, originally named La Jolla Park, was established in 1887. The scenic coastal park has seen almost a century and a half of history, so it’s not surprising a variety of historical plaques can be found by visitors wandering around its 5.6 acres. I once photographed a couple of these plaques and shared them here.
An old plaque that honors San Diego’s beloved horticulturist Kate Sessions can also be discovered at Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Park. The plaque is located near a New Zealand Christmas tree (metrosideros tomentosa) that was planted by the La Jolla Garden Club in 1939 on Kate Sessions’ 82nd birthday. She would pass away in 1940.
Katherine Olivia Sessions is widely known as the Mother of Balboa Park, but she planted hundreds of trees all over San Diego. She even has a park named after her in La Jolla. Her legacy will continue far into the future. Many majestic trees throughout our beautiful city were planted by her own hand.

Passengers beware! Super powered individuals have been observed on a San Diego trolley–and there’s no escape from the mayhem!
I should say–you can’t escape seeing this bold new trolley wrap that promotes the popular Amazon Prime series The Boys!
Pop culture fans can look forward to riding this cool The Boys trolley during Comic-Con 2024. It’s the seventh different Comic-Con trolley wrap that I’ve seen running through the city so far!
This is the second wrap design that advertises shows on Amazon Prime. I photographed the other design yesterday. See it here!

Batman and more characters have appeared on the latest San Diego Comic-Con trolley!
The awesome trolley wrap, which I believe is the sixth design so far for Comic-Con 2024, promotes six shows on Amazon Prime. Those shows are Batman: Caped Crusader, The Legend of Vox Machina, Sausage Party: Foodtopia, Hazbin Hotel, The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy, and Invincible.
I got some pretty good pics this afternoon. Check it out!

I believe these murals are fairly new. I saw them the other day at Civic Center Plaza, near the front entrance of San Diego’s City Administration Building. The half dozen images greet visitors to City Hall.
By searching the internet, I can find out nothing about this installation of photographic art. So I need the help of Cool San Diego Sights readers! I hope someone out there might provide more information with a comment.
I’m afraid the only individual I recognize of the six is San Diego’s renowned muralist Mario Torero–he’s in the final photograph.
I captured these photos in somewhat dim light, so I’ve increased the contrast quite a bit…

I was walking past One America Plaza in downtown San Diego this morning when I had to stop in my tracks and do a double take. Staring out a window at 1001 Kettner Boulevard was a U.S. Navy SEAL!
The surprising window graphic draws attention to the fact that this building is the future home of Navy SEAL Museum San Diego. You might recall how years ago this space, across from Santa Fe Depot, was used as a gallery by the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. (MCASD has since moved everything from their downtown San Diego location to La Jolla.)
As you can see from my photo, construction of the new Navy SEAL museum is now underway. According to their website, Navy SEAL Museum San Diego is scheduled to open in 2025.

Music lovers gathered at Waterfront Park on San Diego’s Embarcadero this afternoon for a special event. They had come to listen to the second concert of San Diego’s newest arts and music series, Blanket Sounds!
As concert time neared, blankets, beach chairs and umbrellas multiplied by the stage, and the growing audience anticipated performances by DJ Mr. Hek and San Diego’s World Punk Band QUEL BORDEL!
Everyone was welcome at this multicultural and multigenerational community gathering. Kids ran and played on the grass. Families enjoyed picnics.
I lingered for a bit, enjoyed the mellow Sunday afternoon atmosphere, and took these photos. There are two more free Blanket Sounds concerts to go this summer. Find out more here!
