Oh my goodness! Why have these old tombs been placed in the southwest corner of San Diego’s Balboa Park? Very spooky!
You’d almost think that Halloween is approaching. Oh, wait. It is less then two months away!
So it isn’t surprising that The Haunted Trail is being set up in its usual Balboa Park location. The annual outdoor “haunted house” attraction is rather large, so putting it all together must take some time.
Imagine walking past those creepy old tombs in the dark of night. Might someone or something pop out unexpectedly?

Can you believe it? The very first building wrap for Comic-Con 2025 is already being applied in the Gaslamp Quarter. Two sides of the Pendry San Diego hotel will be promoting The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, a popular show on AMC!
I spoke to a friendly gentleman putting up one of these huge wraps, and he said his company will be wrapping the Omni Hotel and Hard Rock Hotel as well. Others will be wrapping additional buildings around the San Diego Convention Center, so it appears downtown will be dressed up in epic fashion as usual!
I love how San Diego Comic-Con materializes before one’s eyes in a sudden burst of creativity, as if by magic.
I’ll provide an update in a day or two as the Daryl Dixon wraps on the Pendry near completion!

Daryl Dixon has arrived in San Diego for Comic-Con 2024. I saw him this afternoon as I was walking up Fifth Avenue!
Two big building wraps promoting The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon were being applied to the Pendry Hotel for Comic-Con. I took these photographs!
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’s second season will premiere on September 29, 2024 on AMC.
I hope Daryl didn’t look down and see me shuffling through the Gaslamp Quarter. Because I’m a walker. Bad pun.
You might recall that last year the Pendry Hotel also had eye-catching wraps promoting Daryl Dixon. You can see one photograph here. When these 2024 wraps “wrap up” I’ll post an update below with new photos.
By the way, I’ve learned the Pendry won’t have Comic-Con related donuts inside the hotel this year. The Donut Bar donut pop-up will be available outside, by the Fifth Avenue sidewalk, in front of the hotel’s Provisional restaurant. Word from my friends at San Diego’s world-famous Donut Bar is that Deadpool and Wolverine donuts should be available this year. Yum!

All sorts of tasty sights are popping up around downtown San Diego before the start of Comic-Con 2023!
Today is Saturday. Check out some of the fun stuff I came across while walking around the San Diego Convention Center, through the Gaslamp and into East Village!
A funny hamburger with eyeballs promotes Good Burger 2 from Nickelodeon.The anime film Sand Land will have its world premiere screening at Comic-Con on July 21, 2023.This cool structure will be part of Hulu’s Animayhem activation behind the San Diego Convention Center.And beyond it, you can see the big Star Trek wrap on a Marriot Marquis tower.Archer prop probably needs to be transported over to the FX area.More structures being set up for Hulu’s Animayhem.I can’t wait to check it out during Comic-Con!Adult Swim on the Green hasn’t made much construction progress, seemingly.The FX offsite this year is under construction. Cool San Diego Sights documented a variety of interesting events five years ago.
In 2017, during the month of July, I visited Old Town, North Park, Normal Heights, Little Portugal and Balboa Park, and I watched the big Fourth of July parade in Coronado. But easily the most exciting event was Comic-Con!
Looking back, I see that my camera was super busy as I walked around downtown San Diego during Comic-Con week. I photographed colorful offsites, lots of cosplay, celebrities, even a bit of insanity!

The deadly creatures are creeping closer, closer… Ghouls, vampires, zombies, demons… Before you know it they’ll be gathered at your door… The approaching horror is inescapable!
Most of these very scary, spooky photographs were taken in past years around Halloween. Ghosts, grim reapers, demons and bloodthirsty monsters were encountered in Balboa Park on the Haunted Trail. The deformed zombies? I took those photos during Comic-Con! An elegantly dressed skeleton couple materialized in front of my camera in Old Town on Dia de los Muertos. Other frightening faces appeared just before Halloween in shop windows!
Are some of the images vaguely familiar? I changed these color photographs to grayscale, then darkened many, blurred a few slightly. So that you might be properly terrified!

Legions of creepy clowns, ghosts, demons and undead are slowly gathering in a popular city park. I photographed them lurking among shadowy trees and spooky buildings, waiting to terrify nice, innocent, completely unsuspecting people who happened to be walking down the park trail!

I confess I didn’t stand in long lines for some of the more popular offsite attractions–I mainly just walked around. Watching people. Taking it all in. That’s what I love to do.

Sharkzilla has taken another bite of a surfboard at The Experience during 2018 San Diego Comic-Con!
As you will see, I had quite an experience at The Experience late this morning. This free public attraction is one of many offsites found around downtown during 2018 San Diego Comic-Con.
The very moment you enter, prepare to be mesmerized…
Looking down at The Experience in Petco Park’s Lexus Premier Lot from the Harbor Drive pedestrian bridge.
People stream into the fun, free to the public Comic-Con offsite.
Near the entrance, buses from hotels around the city drop off a motley group of Comic-Con attendees.

Shortly after I arrive, three lovely, sweet, irresistible ladies with Sacred Lies prepare to encircle me with their scarfs.

I spotted Pac-Gentleman again, near Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. That seems a lot of marshmallow for a gentleman to waka-waka-waka gobble all at once.
