Krypto the Superdog has entered South Park during 2019 Comic-Con.
It’s Sunday, the final day of 2019 San Diego Comic-Con.
This morning I took a leisurely walk around downtown, the Gaslamp Quarter and the convention center.
No suffocating crowds, and more relaxed…but less cosplay.
I saw lots of families out enjoying a fun day!
It’s Sunday morning at Comic-Con, and pop culture fans are heading toward the San Diego Convention Center. As I walked up MLK Promenade, these nice Amazon Prime Video ladies handed me literature concerning upcoming shows.I got into the Amazon activation with ease, but then discovered the attractions within had waits of up to two hours!I watched a mock fight up on the colorful central structure.People could don fairy wings and take flight for a Carnival Row photo. This structure contains the Carnival Row attraction. In an earlier blog post I surmised it was for The Boys.A cool area at the Amazon offsite where people can relax. Comic book artist Rob Prior paints an awesome mural inside the Theatre Box in San Diego.
I stepped into the Theatre Box in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter this morning and made a cool discovery! During 2019 Comic-Con, an absolutely awesome mural is being painted on the wall behind the Theatre Box’s grand staircase!
The artist is Rob Prior, a popular comic book artist who has worked for Marvel, DC, Todd McFarlane and Image Comics, as well as video game companies and major advertisers.
Check out this cool artwork! I didn’t go right up and disturb Rob Prior as he worked, but I did manage to photograph some of the characters. I captured Darth Vader and a stormtrooper from Star Wars, Thanos and Black Panther from Marvel Comics, and Wonder Woman from DC Comics. It appears that Marvel’s Deadpool might be part of the mural, too! All of these characters have appeared in recent movies.
I was told that this mural, when completed, will be a permanent decoration at the Theatre Box. Look for it in the lobby at the top of that first flight of stairs!
Rob Prior works on a mural that includes several well-known pop culture characters.

Amazing, fantastic, super creative cosplay everywhere!
The explanation? It must be another Saturday afternoon around San Diego Comic-Con!
Late this afternoon and into the evening, a few blocks of the Gaslamp Quarter were so jammed with cosplayers posing in their elaborate costumes and onlookers turning every which way with phones and cameras, a person could barely move!
I’m not even going to attempt to identify every one of these great cosplays. It’s just too much. (But I must confess I really like both Ron Burgundy and the Sand-witch.)
As you can tell by these photos, 2019 Comic-Con is just as crazy and as wonderful as ever!
One more day of Comic-Con to come!

Charlie Brown welcomes visitors to the Peanuts Pop-Up Shop in San Diego during 2019 Comic-Con, on the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
Today is the 50th Anniversary of the first human landing on the Moon. Half a century ago, Neil Armstrong, one of three astronauts of the Apollo 11 mission, stepped down onto the lunar surface and proclaimed: “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
That first step by a man might not have happened without the help of a beloved cartoon dog.
Visitors to the Peanuts Pop-Up shop in San Diego during 2019 Comic-Con have the opportunity to see fun displays that recall how Charles Schulz, creator of Peanuts, one of the world’s most popular comic strips, helped NASA to safely complete their missions to the moon.
This very special Comic-Con exhibition is titled To the Moon: Snoopy Soars with NASA. The exhibit, which includes humorous comic strips, is on loan from the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, California.
If a couple of my photos appear unusual, that’s because I converted them into cartoons!

One of many future Starfleet artifacts that can now be seen in San Diego during 2019 Comic-Con.
The Starfleet Museum has sent many interesting artifacts from the future back in time to be exhibited during 2019 San Diego Comic-Con.
This very special exhibition, titled Jean-Luc Picard: The First Duty, traces the life and exploits of Admiral Jean-Luc Picard, whose exemplary service to Starfleet has made him a legend throughout the galaxy.
I took photographs of a few of these very rare museum pieces for the enjoyment of my readers. They will remain on loan from the future during the duration of San Diego Comic-Con. If you can, head down to the Gaslamp Quarter and enjoy a fascinating glimpse into future history!

Here come loads of photos from my morning walk around 2019 San Diego Comic-Con before Preview Night. It’s Wednesday, and everyone is working furiously to get wraps and offsites ready!
I walked everywhere: through East Village, the Gaslamp Quarter, around the San Diego Convention Center and Marriott Marquis, and down MLK Promenade.
Among other things I observed . . . the Nerdist offsite has received Museum of Mayhem window wraps. The Watchmen offsite had barely even begun their construction. The Syfy wrap is finished. The entrance of the Star Trek: Picard offsite appears ready, with the words Jean-Luc Picard: The First Duty and Starfleet Museum. DeadQuarters is a radioactive zone, and that airplane appears to have crash landed. The South Park miniature golf is about ready. The Marriott appears ready to host the Esports Lounge. One or two people walking about are already engaging in cosplay. The Dragon Ball Z activation looks really cool now. The IMDb yacht appears about ready. The Adult Swim and FX offsites are both looking pretty awesome, with some mysterious objects that make me wonder what they are. The Petco Park wraps are done, including one for ABC’s Emergence. A gigantic The Twilight Zone wrap is on the brand new Park 12 high-rise near Petco Park. The Interactive Zone at Petco Park is still setting up, and will include a Ripley’s Believe It or Not “Car Lot” with various unusual vehicles. The Chilladelphia activation has carnival games including a Shazam ring toss. I’m starting to see people hauling swag bags about. The Star Trek: Discovery wrap on the Omni is done. So are all the wraps on the Hard Rock Hotel, where IGN will be filming live on a balcony.
And if you’re tired after all this, have a seat on the Seinfeld couch!

You don’t really eat these pancakes, it’s more like they eat you. A funny The Good Place quote at the door of Maryjane’s restaurant during 2019 Comic-Con.
I spotted even more fun (and funny) stuff outside 2019 Comic-Con during my walk this morning!
There are some building wraps I hadn’t previously seen, and I found a couple new ones that are now being applied. I saw that the lobby of the Hard Rock Hotel is being converted into the Superstore. I also noted the Warner Brothers offsite on the grass south of the Omni hotel, which will feature Detective Pikachu and Shazam, is starting to take shape…
Two days until the start of Comic-Con!

This one promotes The Boys. That’s one smiling superhero I’d prefer to avoid.Other stuff is springing up around downtown, like this somewhat goofy-looking banner on a building advertising Tik Tok.Businesses in the Gaslamp Quarter are jumping on the Comic-Con bandwagon. Game of Thrones and Stan Lee inspired cocktails?Syfy has moved to Seventh and J Street for 2019 Comic-Con. I believe you can catch their fun karaoke bus and trivia trolleys here.A cool Star Trek: Discovery wrap is being applied to the north side of the Omni Hotel. The Warner Brothers offsite has erected an archway that says Chilladelphia Winter Carnival. You might remember the big, climactic scene in Shazam!Freddy Freeman and his pal Shazam are perched atop another arch!
