It’s Friday, five days until 2019 Comic-Con, and I noticed during my morning walk that the FOX Fan Fair offsite is just starting to set up in Childrens Park!
I also saw the Ferris wheel carnival ride arriving by truck in the New Children’s Museum nearby playground!
UPDATE!
Look what I spied as I walked about in the early evening, coming home from work. Not only is the Ferris wheel set up, but in the middle of Childrens Park there appears to be a carnival game!

The very first building wrap of 2019 Comic-Con is now being applied to the Omni hotel across from the San Diego Convention Center! It appears to promote FOX and their Animation Domination!
Gaslamp Square near the Tin Fish and Hard Rock Hotel is also fenced off now. I expect construction will soon begin for NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine offsite, which will include a Statue of Liberty!
UPDATE!
Early Friday evening I walked about and made lots of cool discoveries!
I noticed the Animation Domination wrap on the Omni has some more panels. I also noticed NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine activation is now under construction. Some banners promoting various NBC shows have also been hung nearby at the Gaslamp trolley station.
Plus I noticed the beginnings of three new building wraps!
Two I can’t identify yet–one is on a tower of the Marriott Marquis and the other, a CBS show, is on the Hilton Gaslamp. (The first might be upcoming TBS series Snowpiercer and the second might be Star Trek: Picard. Can you identify them?)
A third very cool wrap on the Marriott promotes Gundam on its 40th anniversary!

After work today I walked around San Diego looking for new Comic-Con stuff . . . and look what I discovered!
Preparations downtown are about to go into high gear!
(I swung by the Amazon offsite, too. Nothing interesting has appeared since I posted two updates here. I’ll keep my eye on it in the days ahead.)

Interesting buildings are popping up as Amazon’s offsite begins construction a couple weeks before 2019 San Diego Comic-Con.
Twelve days until 2019 San Diego Comic-Con!
I walked around the Gaslamp Quarter, East Village and other parts of downtown both this morning and this afternoon. I noticed that more cool stuff is beginning to appear for SDCC 2019!
The most notable thing I spotted is construction of Amazon’s huge offsite, which is located in the same place where the Jack Ryan Experience was last year. This year Amazon will be promoting their shows The Expanse, Carnival Row and The Boys. I’ll keep walking past this offsite construction in the days ahead, plus I’ll continue looking for other new Comic-Con developments!

Check out the next photo, taken on Monday, July 8!
UPDATE!
Here’s a photo taken on Tuesday, July 9 at Amazon’s big Comic-Con offsite. Looks like a science fiction setting–perhaps for The Expanse…
UPDATE!
I took the following photo on Friday, July 12, only five day to go until Comic-Con. It appears they were working to complete the top level of the tower, which I’m assuming from its colorful appearance will promote Carnival Row.

The County Administration Building in downtown San Diego got a gigantic new banner today! It celebrates the 250th Anniversary of San Diego’s founding!
Those who look up at the banner from the Embarcadero are reminded that San Diego–which started very modestly back in 1769 with the construction of a Spanish mission and presidio–was California’s first port and first city!

A wonderful new project is underway for the summer at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. To Do: A Mending Project can be enjoyed by the general public at MCASD’s downtown location in their Danah Fayman Gallery, right next to the America Plaza trolley station.
Artists Michelle Montjoy, Anna O’Cain, and Siobhán Arnold offer a unique workshop environment where people in the community can come together, talk, relax, create, and enjoy a tranquil safe space free of the many societal tensions and stresses in our contemporary world. With simple thread divisions are mended, and people feel whole once again.
As I walked into the gallery, the artists were sewing bags, and smiling and enjoying themselves thoroughly. They gave me a friendly welcome!
I poked my nose around and learned that To Do: A Mending Project has its own website, listing a wide range of activities that anyone can join through the summer. There’s the mending of clothes, knitting, poetry collage, yoga exercises, pasta making, a silent reading group, painting, and a whole lot more!
Syfy “It’s a Fan Thing” trolley wrap for 2019 San Diego Comic-Con!
Syfy’s wonderfully nerdy 2019 San Diego Comic-Con trolleys have begun to appear!
Like the past couple years, the Syfy trolley wrap I spotted this morning pays tribute to the fans of popular culture with an assortment of witty phrases!
To fandom and beyond.Eat. Sleep. Theorize. Repeat.Bad guys always have the best lines.Geeks, assemble!
UPDATE!
Here are two more sayings on a different trolley wrap…
It’s not a hobby. It’s a lifestyle.Get your geek on.
And one more!
Talk nerdy with us.

Alligators have been sighted in downtown San Diego!
This morning I spotted several very strange creatures lurking downtown.
Some appear dangerous.
Chili Dog blast off!For this frog’s sake, I hope they don’t turn the heat up slowly. This might be Kingpin. Or perhaps Skull and Crosspins. This peculiar creature responds very strangely to caffeine. These caffeinated creatures haven’t arrived in San Diego yet, but they’re on the way!

Forgive me for posting the following photos. I have a boyish love for trains.
This morning and afternoon I walked along C Street to and from the City College trolley station. I simply had to pause to watch as workers tore up a section of old asphalt and rails running down the center of the street, then later as the workers carefully dumped and leveled new track ballast. I asked one friendly guy who seemed to be supervising if the rails were old and he replied that was the case!
According to some signs, work on this section of trolley tracks will be completed this weekend.
As you can see in the final photo, I wasn’t the only one intrigued by all the activity!

I enjoyed a slow, easy walk down Sixth Avenue around noontime today. As a rule, the quietest day in downtown is Sunday, but there’s still plenty in the city to discover.
If you’re familiar with San Diego, you might recognize some of the locations in these photos!
