The first of the Walking Dead have arrived in San Diego for 2017 Comic-Con. Fortunately, this guy was able to jump out of a hungry zombie’s grasp just in time.
Workers at AMC’s Deadquarters on MLK Promenade are busy preparing for a zombie apocalypse! A small army of walking dead will be attending 2017 San Diego Comic-Con, and we’d like these hungry zombies to feel right at home.
As I walked around downtown this morning taking photos, it appeared to me that some of the living dead have already arrived!
In anticipation of rampaging zombies, workers at AMC’s Deadquarters on MLK Promenade are applying stains to the shabby furniture.This worker is busy applying blood to a file cabinet. Because gory zombies like to feel at home when they gather around old, dilapidated junk.A lot of work is required to prepare for your average zombie apocalypse.I saw this bloody-looking Derry High School bus in the Petco Interactive Zone. Looks to me like it already brought in a few zombies. They might be walking around San Diego right now…

Dreams seem to have materialized on a cluster of electrical boxes at the corner of Felton Street and Adams Avenue in Normal Heights.
Some of the street art is tranquil and crystal-like. Some of the images are like visions from a nightmare. Others are fantastically distorted–almost but not quite human!
Take a look–if you dare!
A nightmarish skull.More skulls include an upside-down peace sign–sometimes a symbol of death.A wraith-like figure seems to be in pain.Hands and fingers create an eerie, seemingly inhuman skull.An abstract flower has a peace sign right-side-up. Perhaps an affirmation of life.Colorful designs like snowflakes on an electrical box appear to be visions in a beautiful dream.Someone peers at the stars.Perhaps life is but a dream. A woman seems to grow from something swirling and elemental.Crazily distorted faces.Many human expressions–but fantastic and weird. I believe I’ve seen creatures like these in my dreams.Who is that in the middle? Perhaps you or me.

I was frightened out of my wits (and amused) this morning during my walk through the Gaslamp Quarter. Halloween must be coming to downtown San Diego!
For Halloween, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have become skeletons in this store window. Does anyone need a costume? Trick or treat!And here we have some happy scarecrows and a pumpkin. Autumn has come to downtown San Diego!

Saturday evening, an army of zombies was spotted gathering in San Diego’s Children’s Park, getting ready to attack thousands of innocent humans attending 2016 Comic-Con.
I made it out alive. As you’ll see–just barely.
The 2016 San Diego Comic-Con zombie walk featured a huge army of bloodthirsty undead. They gathered in Children’s Park this evening and prepared to attack innocent humans hanging around San Diego’s nearby Gaslamp Quarter. I got away before the carnage began.
I was quickly reminded that I was living meat, so I kept a very careful distance. And I prayed these were slow zombies.The undead kept gravitating toward the city park. Where they came from, I don’t know. They were on a mission. They planned to swarm into the nearby Gaslamp Quarter, where it was dinnertime and they could feast on innocent diners.Many of these walking dead appeared to be in a rather poor state of health. Why did they keep eyeing me?Goodness! Even a magical woodland fairy succumbed to the zombie plague. I’m not sure why I’m hanging around.Oh, horrors! Trump and Hillary have both become zombies! I guess we’re all doomed no matter what.I’ve seen this gruesome dude before. I think I have a photo of him on my blog from another San Diego zombie walk. I guess the undead really never die.This guy could use a moist towelette and very large bandage.How sweet. Mom zombie and son zombie are going to join the coming rampage. Family time together is so heartwarming and wonderful.Unless, of course, Mom zombie takes a bite of her undead son. I guess she couldn’t wait to seek out normal human flesh.This must be the hippest, best dressed zombie I ever saw. A hostess might be tricked and let him into one of those more fancy restaurants in the Gaslamp.When you’re a zombie, and you want to video the coming carnage, what do you do? You jam a GoPro directly into your bloody skull. Just keep the lens clean.I don’t think plastic surgery will fix that.The zombies listened (to the best of their ability) as the plan of attack was laid before them. The city’s living residents seemed completely doomed. I thought it wise at this point to discretely walk away.Oh, no! Too late!

A new 2016 San Diego Comic-Con trolley wrap promotes Dead of Summer on the Freeform cable channel, from the Executive Producers of Once Upon a Time and Lost.
I was wrong! There’s a fourth San Diego Comic-Con trolley wrap for 2016, and I got photos of it this morning!
This brand new San Diego trolley wrap advertises the television show Dead of Summer, which premiered today on the Freeform cable channel! The images are a bit creepy and suggest death in the hot, languid summer. It seems this new horror show, created by the Executive Producers of Once Upon a Time and Lost, concerns a Midwestern summer camp called Camp Stillwater, and is set in the 1980s. Has anyone seen the first episode yet?
This body in the tire swing has no top half visible! Which effectively produces a double-take and horrified reaction!A dead bee lying on the tongue of an open drooling mouth. Not sure about the meaning, but the image is memorable and disturbing!

Zombies and ghouls gather for a scare at Balboa Park Halloween Family Day.
At first today’s Balboa Park Halloween Family Day seemed uneventful. A lot of park visitors out enjoying a sunny late October day. What could possibly go wrong?
The San Diego Police could not stop the frightening scene to come. Their skeleton crew was taking a lazy Saturday nap in the park.Everything seemed peaceful and normal. A baby stroller headed down El Prado, carrying a sunflower.The San Diego Zoo was showing a two-toed sloth to costumed kids eating candy for Halloween.This MTS lady seemed happy and so did the pumpkin behind her. But little did the visitors to Balboa Park know…danger was lurking nearby…The Doggie Costume Contest in Spanish Village promised to be a fun, tail-wagging affair.This witch assured me she was a nice witch. Not one of those wicked ones. But I don’t know about all those spooky symbols on the sign beside her.The glassblowers were making beautiful pumpkins. There’s nothing very scary here, right?Now wait a minute. I see Godzilla strolling near the reflecting pool. Perhaps he emerged from deep waters to wreak havoc on San Diego. I hope not.More nice pumpkins. These are arranged among harmless, pretty flowers and various exotic plants in the Botanical Building.A lady, with a skull face painting, poses in a beautiful Dia de los Muertos dress. What could possibly go wrong today?Oh, no! Here come the evil clowns! Now we asked for it!And now zombies are converging on the Plaza de Panama! One is limping horribly toward an undead bride in a wedding gown!And now look! A crowd of limp, staggering figures is assembling in the plaza. What are they going to do?They’re going to dance! It’s Michael Jackson’s Thriller!
It’s close to midnight and something evil’s lurking in the dark
Under the moonlight you see a sight that almost stops your heart
You try to scream, but terror takes the sound before you make it
You start to freeze as horror looks you right between the eyes
You’re paralyzed…
A scary flash mob, brought together by the San Diego Civic Dance Association, performs Thriller during Balboa Park Halloween Family Day.

And no one’s gonna save you from the beast about to strike!

Creepy skulls await visitors near entrance to The Haunted Trail. Many visitors will scream this coming Halloween season.
Is it nearly Autumn? That means Halloween is quickly approaching! And so are the usual nightmarish horrors!
I saw during a walk through Balboa Park’s west end that The Haunted Trail is under construction. Around Halloween, the annual outdoor “haunted house” scares even the bravest living residents of San Diego. Passing through the dark, ghostly trees at night might be scary enough, but imagine being surrounded by legions of hellish ghouls and flesh-eating zombies!
I conquered my own fear and poked my camera over a fence to record the coming terror…
The Haunted Trail is under construction on the west end of Balboa Park. Workers seem to be just getting started.Bloody decapitated heads on pikes will scare thrill-seekers in the dark of night!Various dummies arranged on the leafy ground. Like the undead, they will soon rise!What would Halloween be without a pumpkin head? And some ghouls, ghosts, specters and miscellaneous whatnot.That’s one big pile of terribly mangled bodies. It almost looks like what happens during a fumble in football.I thought one grim reaper was quite enough, thank you!And to top it all off, a good old spooky demon with horns. October must be approaching!

A new San Diego Comic-Con trolley wrap features Conan O’Brien turned into what appear to be Funko POP! toy figures. Here he’s a blank-eyed zombie, plus his own ordinary bland self.
I spotted another 2015 San Diego Comic-Con trolley wrap in the past couple days! This one promotes Conan O’Brien’s television show on TBS. He’ll be hosting his talk show live from Comic-Con July 8-12. I’ve read that he’ll also be moderating two panels in Hall H: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 and The Last Witch Hunter.
The images on the trolley wrap seem to show Conan turned into several Funko POP! toy figures! Cool!
Here Conan O’Brien has been transformed into Batman and a green Frankenstein monster.Here’s a wrap on an older version San Diego trolley at America Plaza. Conan will be live from Comic-Con July 8-11.Finally, here we have a commuter who’s entirely unconcerned that Frankenstein Conan is threatening him with scary outstretched monster arms.

A cool San Diego trolley wrap for 2015 Comic-Con promotes Scream Queens on Fox. A killer new series from the creators of Glee and American Horror Story.
I finally got pics of the very first trolley wrap for the upcoming 2015 San Diego Comic-Con. The bold graphics promote Scream Queens, an American horror-comedy television series, which is having its world premiere at Comic-Con. The series will be televised on Fox starting in September.
I spoke to a super friendly trolley driver on Thursday (she always smiles and waves at me!) and I learned that more trolley wraps are in the process of being readied for Comic-Con. What they are, I don’t know. We’ll find out together! Stay tuned!

Boy dressed as tin man enjoys Boulevard BOO! Parade in San Diego.
I’ve heard about San Diego’s only Halloween parade for years. Today I checked it out!
The Boulevard BOO! Parade is now ten years old. It takes place every late October on El Cajon Boulevard near College Avenue. The neighborhood, just south of San Diego State University, appears to have really embraced this annual Halloween event!
Hundreds of families turned out to view the fun spectacle. The BOO! Parade is mostly for kids, and many young spectators had trick-or-treat bags and were in costume themselves!

10th annual BOO! Parade took place on El Cajon Boulevard.Two scary zombie kids were seen lurching down the street before the parade began.These pirates were being rascally and rambunctious in the parade staging area!BOO! Parade kicks off a few blocks west of College Avenue in the late morning.

Super tall Boo is blue, and he seems to blend in with the clouds.Looks like all the regular monsters have shown up for this big Halloween parade!There were a few not-so-scary clowns around, too!Marine Corps marching band gets things rolling near start of parade.One of many creative floats seen during the fun late October parade.Two different Ghostbusters cars were in the parade.Kids get goodies from a ghostbuster patrolling El Cajon Boulevard.Costumed parade participants from San Diego Center for the Blind.Here come some smiling SDSU cheerleaders.The San Diego State University mascot Aztec Warrior gives a high five!Lots of cars in the parade were draped with creepy cobwebs.Kids marching in the parade wore every sort of cool costume you can imagine!Here comes a long line of classic cars with spooky decorations.A witch waves to a passing skeleton!The San Diego Police Department must be hiring guys with evil pumpkin heads!One of two pirate ships I saw. This was most definitely very cool.Little zombies do a dance routine!Several schools were in the parade and everyone was having a blast.Here come the Shriners in their Halloween-themed mini-cars!And here come more clowns out of the woodwork.The second pirate ship rolls along with some waving beauty queens.A beauty queen is wearing a big, golden pharaoh headdress!I suppose these young ladies are the queens of Zombieland!And this beauty queen is dressed up as macaroni and cheese!Looks like the ROTC is recruiting young monsters.Headless parader thrills girls and shocks poor old mom.A whole lot of fun was enjoyed by thousands today, young and old.Utility box on El Cajon Boulevard painted with scenes from BOO!
