A cool mural on the Supercuts building in North Park depicts sexy lady space warriors and wacky, menacing aliens!
There’s a relatively new mural in North Park that replaces a cosmic mural that I blogged about here. This cool spray paint street art features two sexy space warriors and several wacky aliens! You can find it near the corner of El Cajon Boulevard and 30th Street.
It appears to me that certain elements of the old mural have been preserved. Have you “eyed” it?
I recently learned that a special utility box painting event will be taking place in North Park all along University Avenue and 30th Street tomorrow, and I hope to be there for the creativity, live music and fun! But right now I seem to be coming down with a cold, plus rain is predicted–so we’ll see. If I go I’ll take photos!

One side of an electrical box on University Avenue at Interstate 805. This particular art closely resembles other examples I once photographed in National City.

I began on University Avenue near I-805, walking east along the sidewalk on the south side. Then I crossed at 35th Street and headed back west down the sidewalk on University Avenue’s north side.

I noticed this colorful tower to the south features references to both City Heights and Cherokee Point, a neighborhood south of University Avenue.Before crossing the street I spied this fun street mural near another bus stop.Now that I’m walking next to it, I can really enjoy this sun and pink flamingo. Both are wearing sunglasses. By artist Gilly Bee, created for #TheAvenueMuralProject.I found another super cool mural on the side of The Kings Barbershop.The front of The Kings Barbershop was painted by DyseOne and Hasler.A very colorful mural on University Avenue in City Heights! I believe this bold spray paint art is fairly new.It’s the Tooth Fairy on the wall of North Park Dental! By artist Sand One, a Latina street artist from East Los Angeles.

Bold faces peer from a wall in one alley on National Avenue.
Yesterday I walked from East Village into Barrio Logan. I headed southeast down National Avenue, making my way to the Chicano Park Day celebration. And look what I discovered!
Two alleys on National Avenue northwest of Beardsley Street contain some street art murals that absolutely blew me away!

I spotted these cool street art faces (mostly human faces, that is) along 30th Street, between University Avenue and El Cajon Boulevard!

I’ve blogged about this very cool special event venue several times in the past, here and here and here. The spray-painted murals and graffiti are constantly changing, and there are a number of newer works that I hadn’t seen until I walked by this morning. Here they are!
The wall along F Street at SILO has been painted with various cool bits of urban art. That doughnut is making me hungry.A San Diego Sea Walls mural on the same wall features a bearded face and two hands. Not sure about the symbolism.Walking along the sidewalk, we now spy a funky purplish face.A squished-up greenish face.An orange face with oddly protruding eyeballs.Some colorful graffiti I hadn’t seen previously inside SILO. It’s probably been a year since I walked by here. I took this and the following photos through a fence.Looks like a strange scene from Alice in Wonderland.Female face spray painted on a wall.A look down into the fantastic SILO special event venue. I don’t recall seeing that cargo container before.Just tons of cool images. Like a crazy dream in the center of the city! I think that mural on top might be somewhat new.A very cool abstract jumble of street art on a brick wall.Looks like some sort of cosmic bird deities have arrived from outer space. The Nest Murals include a big blue whale on a yellow fence in Barrio Logan, not far from downtown San Diego.
I stumbled upon a collection of colorful murals the other day while walking through Barrio Logan. A project of The Nest, founded by San Diego artist Jorge Mendoza, this very cool street art can be found near the intersection of National Avenue and Evans Street, a block southeast of Chicano Park.

Here are more cool pics from my long walk a couple weekends ago. I took these as I headed up 30th Street through North Park. The building you see has featured ever-changing graffiti for many years, even before the laundromat went out of business. I’ve often glanced at the street art while driving past, but until now didn’t have a good opportunity to snap photographs.
Bicyclist rides south down 30th in North Park, past an old closed laundromat at Redwood Street. This building’s exterior has long featured changing works of street art.Utility box across the street near a liquor store has been painted with colorful leaves.Another side of the same utility box. Cool mural in San Diego’s hip South Park community features Latino and Native American cultural influences.
Here are four cool street murals that I spotted during my meandering walk yesterday. You can find them on Fern Street in San Diego’s South Park neighborhood. All four of these are north of Date Street. I’m sure there are others to the south that I missed.

I went on a long walk today and took many photos. Enough for several blog posts!
I’ll begin at the beginning–walking in the mid-morning from downtown San Diego to the top of Golden Hill. I headed east along Broadway, crossed Interstate 5, then began my climb up the hill, looking this way and that. Here are a few interesting things I saw, starting at the Police Headquarters located at 14th and Broadway…
A wreath in front of the San Diego Police Headquarters’ Wall of Honor is the remnant of a recent memorial ceremony. The wall is inscribed with the names of all police officers killed in the line of duty since 1913.A prayer on Broadway. Shelter my brothers and sisters in arms who have fallen in the fight. Let their stars, lit by your love, shine brightly through the night.A sign points to Golden Hill as I walk east up Broadway from downtown San Diego.Looking back west toward downtown. Many jacaranda trees line San Diego’s streets. A man waits at a bus stop.Crazy decal on the back of a stop sign.A utility box with a bit of funny urban art. This tired buffalo appears to be crunching some numbers.A nicely restored Victorian residence on sloping Broadway, photographed while heading up Golden Hill. This neighborhood contains many historic houses. A hundred years ago, this area on a scenic hill near downtown was very affluent.One side of a utility box has been boldly painted with a fiery green dragon.A lady and a scaly dragon on the opposite side of the box. A floral mural decorates a nearby store’s wall.The San Diego Reader is a very popular alternative weekly newspaper in our city. Their headquarters is located on Broadway in Golden Hill.The 1896 Quartermass-Wilde House is a San Diego Historic Landmark. It’s difficult to miss! This elegant Victorian is an outstanding example of Queen Anne style architecture.Lots of balloons and flowers for sale at the corner of Broadway and 25th Street. It’s Mother’s Day.A beautiful bit of shining art inlaid in the sidewalk. A marker at the top of Golden Hill.San Diego Fire Station 11, at the corner of Broadway and 25th Street. It’s a perfect day for a walk!A Mexican taco shop has graffiti on the windows. The neighborhood today is slightly neglected, but sunny and pleasant.A wooden fence along the sidewalk contains amazing, colorful murals, beginning with this flowery skull.A brilliant butterfly spotted on Broadway, near the top of Golden Hill!A hummingbird drawn like ancient Southwestern rock art.A magical lady, eyeball plants and an unfinished Simba.Someone walks west along the Broadway sidewalk. I continued east, turned north up 28th Street and directed my feet toward South Park.
