Padres banners for a season in doubt.

Major League Baseball has postponed the start of the 2020 season because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. When and how the season might begin remains in doubt.

Earlier this year the San Diego Padres hung player banners on the lampposts around Petco Park and East Village. The banners depict some of the team’s best players. Many knowledgeable sports fans believe the Padres have significantly upgraded their roster, and computer simulations even have the Padres making the playoffs as a wild card.

Today I took some exercise and walked around Petco Park. I avoided close contact with other walkers, which was pretty easy, seeing how quiet downtown has become during the pandemic.

For everyone’s sake, let’s hope and pray this very dangerous COVID-19 crisis ends soon.

For all you Padres fans out there who miss baseball, you might enjoy these photos…

Flowers, patterns, and a tangle of emotions.

The prolific artists of @ladieswhopaint have created even more murals on F Street in San Diego’s East Village! These three colorful murals can be seen just west of Park Boulevard. Here are several photos!

The third mural has a small sign painted next to it that reads:

Saudade

A TANGLE OF EMOTIONS
BOTH HAPPY AND SAD
ABOUT MISSING SOMEONE
OR SOMETHING.

More fun photos of unique city doors!

Every once in a blue moon I post photos of unique doors that I come across during my city walks. Some of these doors can be really unusual. You can check out two of my past door collections here and here.

Well, here’s another fun batch!

All of these photographs were taken around downtown San Diego–East Village, the Gaslamp Quarter and Little Italy–in the past few days.

If you’re familiar with the city, you might recognize a few of these doors!

Gigantic splashes of color at Quartyard!

Yesterday morning I happened to wander down Market Street past 13th Street. I hadn’t walked or driven past East Village’s relocated Quartyard for months.

Look what I saw! Gigantic splashes of color!

Those seeking inspiration in downtown San Diego’s East Village will find it at the corner of Market Street and Tenth Avenue. That’s where a beautiful new mural reminds everyone to BE TRUE!

East Village continues to receive colorful new street art, thanks in large part to @ladieswhopaint!

An early morning walk in late October.

It’s now late October. We’re experiencing Santa Ana winds in Southern California, so downtown San Diego in the morning was clear, dry, and promised to warm up quickly.

I took a long random walk to enjoy the early sunlight. I started from the top of Cortez Hill and meandered through East Village and the Gaslamp Quarter.

Halloween and Dia de los Muertos are fast approaching, and I noticed signs of the coming festivities.

Not all of these photos are pleasant. They represent a few of the many things that I saw.

Colorful new murals on Park Boulevard!

Check out these colorful murals that now decorate the east side of the old Firestone Complete Auto Care building on Park Boulevard, just north of Smart Corner.

All three murals were recently created by the female artists of @ladieswhopaint!

UPDATE!

I took more pics on a later walk…

More murals, graffiti-style art along F Street.

About a week ago I walked down F Street in East Village, between 13th Street and 16th Street. I hadn’t ventured that way in a long time.

I took photos of a some colorful new murals. I also aimed my camera through a chain-link fence at spray painted graffiti-style art on the walls of SILO, which has replaced previous artwork. I noticed a lot of litter and weeds inside the SILO venue. Perhaps it hasn’t been used recently.

A quick look inside The Orville Experience.

I’ve never watched The Orville. Most of the people I’ve spoken to say it’s pretty good. I suppose I’ll have to watch an episode or two.

I was walking to another San Diego Comic-Con destination today when I passed The Orville Experience activation in East Village. So I went in!

My camera is old and struggles in dim lighting, but I was able to get a few good shots. I used flash to capture the costumes, but I’m afraid I recorded no information about them.

The exhibition is definitely cool, with props and models and all sorts of amazing stuff from the show.

Those of you who do watch The Orville might recognize all this:

After work today I walked around San Diego looking for new Comic-Con stuff . . . and look what I discovered!

Preparations downtown are about to go into high gear!

(I swung by the Amazon offsite, too. Nothing interesting has appeared since I posted two updates here. I’ll keep my eye on it in the days ahead.)

One week to go until 2019 Comic-Con!
