This chilly January morning I enjoyed a brisk walk. I brought out my camera when it was light enough for good photographs.

Come follow me from the County Administration Building north along San Diego Bay for a short distance. After returning back south, we’ll turn away from the water and head east on Ash Street, turn south on Pacific Highway, and end up near Broadway.

This morning the sky quickly turned blue after sunrise.

A golden sunrise along San Diego Bay.

The sky was clear at sunrise this morning. The light strengthened gradually along San Diego Bay.

Golden sunlight glinted from the tiny jewel-like windows of distant Point Loma.

I walked by the water from the Broadway Pier to the G Street Pier, which was luckily open.

Splashes of light were touching trees, boats, and the downtown skyline.

I ventured out over the water and watched the sun appear from behind gleaming buildings.

Striking views downtown, gazing skyward.

About a week ago–before or after a recent storm–I walked through downtown San Diego in the early morning.

At street level the city was shadowy. The rising sun tinted the clouds with pink. Bright light was reflecting from the windows of several buildings.

I got these striking photographs!

This morning, as I walked past the Grape Street Pier in downtown San Diego, a strange bright something caught my eye.

At first I thought I saw gigantic billiard balls!

No, it was early morning light on a cluster of brand new floats.

Light, water and beauty at Escondido City Hall.

Escondido City Hall was built in 1988. Its design remains remarkable today. Walk around the stately but welcoming building, and you’ll be greeted by light, water and beauty.

I enjoyed a look at City Hall’s award-winning architecture during my visit to Escondido last weekend. In the past I’ve been able to venture inside, and I can tell you the functional interior is just as spacious and friendly.

I didn’t walk far along the water–perhaps a quarter mile west from the Interstate 5 bridge.
