Several months ago a new community gathering place opened up in San Diego’s City Heights neighborhood. Pop-up Winona is a cozy spot where anyone can sit down, relax, enjoy good company and a coffee or snack, and possibly attend an entertaining event! Here’s their Instagram page.
Pop-up Winona is located near the corner of El Cajon Boulevard and Winona Avenue. If parts of it look familiar, it replaces the old gathering place that was situated on El Cajon Boulevard at Fairmount Avenue.
When I swung by the other day I was welcomed with a friendly smile. I skipped coffee, but I did find a fresh, tasty pastry to enjoy during my walk.
I was told Pop-up Winona will be relocated across El Cajon Boulevard this summer, so keep that in the back of your mind if you go looking for it. As I learn of upcoming events at the pop-up, I’ll post the news.
One more thing–check out my final photo. These good people accept donations for the homeless.

Love City Heights Festival Celebrates Music, Art, and Community on June 20 Ahead of Official Love City Heights Day
SAN DIEGO, CA — Love City Heights will host it’s 9th Love City Heights Day on Saturday, June 20, from 2–9 PM, bringing together local musicians, live artists, families, neighbors, and community partners for a full day celebrating creativity, culture, and connection in the heart of City Heights.
Love City Heights Day, proclaimed by the City Of San Diego 9 years ago, is June 24.
The June 20 festival will feature live musical performances, raffles, family-friendly activities, and live painting by local artists including Dentlok of Barrio Logan and Tiny Nightmare of South Park. The event is designed to highlight the power of public art, local music, neighborhood culture, and community-led creative spaces.
Love City Heights is a local nonprofit focused on creating new murals, supporting public art, building community through music and neighborhood events, and creating opportunities for connection across City Heights. Through mural projects, live art, youth mentorship, educator partnerships, and creative community programming, Love City Heights works to celebrate local culture, support artists, and help neighborhoods feel seen, valued, and connected.
The day’s lineup includes performances from Signal for Pilot, Kat Hall, Moni Light, Moriamo, Flop Shot, Shine Sweet Moon, Son Terre, W444y, and more. Raffles during the festival will support Love City Heights programming.
The Love City Heights Festival is open to the community and welcomes families, neighbors, artists, musicians, educators, local businesses, and anyone who believes in the power of community-centered art.
