Gaslamp shops prepare for 2014 Comic-Con.

Two weeks to go until this year’s San Diego Comic-Con! During my walk downtown today I saw that a few shops, bars and restaurants in the Gaslamp Quarter have begun to get ready. A couple signs are up and a few windows are painted. Horton Plaza shops have many wares ready to sell. I suspect in the coming week, major preparations will seriously get underway. I’m looking forward to see what surprises pop up!

    1. I last attended San Diego Comic-Con around 1980, believe it or not! I had a friend who was into comic book art, and we headed down to Golden Hall at the Civic Center where Comic-Con was held at the time. There were no TV or movie or video game booths, just comic books! It was great! The event has probably grown a hundred fold since then. Public events and street displays and people engaging in cosplay can be seen all over downtown and the Gaslamp in particular. Last year all the Batmobiles and Tumblers from the many Batman movies and old television show were out on public display between the Convention Center and the Hilton. This year should be bigger than ever! I hope others following my blog will excuse me if I post lots of Comic-Con stuff in the next couple weeks!

  2. One of my favorite places to visit is Santa Fe. They have a Chuck Jones Gallery down there which I never miss out on visiting. I’ll have to see San Diego’s sometime.

    1. It’s very cool! I love those old Warner Bros. cartoons and the wacky cast of characters, so I get a kick out of the place. I wander in every year or so to see what’s new. I’m sure they’ll be doing quite well during Comic-Con!
