Singing Christmas carols in San Diego’s Old Town!

Look what I stumbled upon yesterday during an afternoon walk through San Diego’s history-filled Old Town. Folks in Victorian costumes were roaming about, singing Christmas carols!

I learned this group is composed of Old Town San Diego State Historic Park staff and volunteers. They were having a great time spreading Christmas cheer, pausing to sing at the various museums, restaurants and shops around old San Diego’s picturesque central plaza.

I was even given a cool little book filled with Christmas carol lyrics. Thank you guys!

Merry Christmas!

  1. Merry Christmas to you as well, Richard! There’s nothing particularly stand-out to me about this post, I just wanted to stop by and tell you how much I enjoy all the pictures you post of my childhood haunts. Old Town was sort of my northeast boundary in my pre-car days, and Mission Bay was the north edge, and I enjoyed the yacht pond pics yesterday as well. Or maybe there is a point:

As I mentioned before, I’m a steampunk author, and my current WIP is a novel set in Victorian San Diego, more in the old red-light district of Stingaree, but Old Town plays into it. I’ve been looking at contemporary pics from the SD Historical Society, which are great for old Stingaree, as most of it is gone, but your shot of the Cosmopolitan made me realize that I can come down there (it isn’t that far from east county) and walk through the actual buildings, in many cases in their original locations.

    Cue the Homer Simpson *doh!*

So thank you for this epiphany! If my book turns out some degree better, I can thank this post for reminding me that I have current access. And of course, I’ll mention you and this blog on the acknowledgements page.

So thanks again, and happy holidays from the old “Blimprider!”
